I was at the dealer and the service rep told me I could adjust the low profile shocks to increase ground clearance; I have been dragging the footboards in right hand turns. He said to adjust the mounting bolt, not the spring damper setting. Has anyone tried this? HOw much extra ground clearance can you get out of this? The shaft mount is about all the way to the end of the shaft on the shock presently, so I could decrease the shaft length between the shock and the mounting to increase the ground clearance. Anyone have experience with this?
what year is the bike? I don't know any softail came with stock height adjustable shocks...you can adj the preload so it will settle less when you sit on it. I took the shocks off my 99 fatboy an the shocks were height adj but I think someone added the adjustable kit to them, if that was done to yours you can adjust them up.
It's a 2016. the service guy. The suggested method would bring the rear wheel down and thus raise the ground clearance. the damping of the shock would not change.
if it is stock, no ride height adjustability, if it has a lowering kit it depends how far it was dropped, there is usually about 2 inch adjustability, longer=lower shorter=higher ride height.
If you could get your cell phone underneath the bike and snap a picture of the shock bolts and post it will be easy to tell if you had a lowering kit added or aftermarket shocks like the progressive 422's which are adjustable. Stock heritage's did not have adjustable shocks
I have the Progressive 422's witch are lowered 1 inch, front dropped 1 inch also. I have no trouble dragging hard parts, I called Progressive before I lowered it, they did not recommend more then 1 inch drop for dragging and ride quality. You tube has a lot of info on this.
golfblues, i have the lowered shocks. Just wondering how much the bike can be raised?
If they are set at the end so no threads are showing it is down 2" from stock. If you shorten them so all the threads are showing you will be 2" higher.
Edited After I reread your original post
