Registration
I leave my paperwork in my wallet that comes and goes with me.
I keep that in my windshield bag.
I don't leave anything on the bike.
If someone were to steal my bike, why help them out and give a thief my registration and insurance cards?

If the thief gets pulled over, and the bike has been reported stolen, the LEO will know the bike is stolen before he gets out of the car.
If it is not reported stolen, the LEO is going to look at the registration and see the owners name does not match the riders license...
I keep mine in a zip loc bag in the saddlebag.
The idea behind making us carry this paperwork on us is long since outdated.
By the time you get your jiffy stand down the LEO knows if the bike has been reported stolen, who owns it and if the registration is current.

True enough... but you're gonna generate a little income for the local government if you don't have it.
Not understanding how leaving this paperwork on the bike helps a thief.

If the owner was at work or on vacation it might be days before he knows it's missing.
And just because the driver's name didn't match wouldn't warrant detaining him either. "It's my buddy's bike" or "I'm thinking of buying it and I'm taking a test ride".
As long as the paperwork was in order what could a cop do really? Didn't you ever borrow somebody else's car?
By the time anybody knew what really happened the rider and bike could be in another state.
