Default Clutch woes.

I have a 2005 Softail Deluxe, I adjusted the clutch pack just as the service manual described but when I take the slack out of the cable and test the pull, there is a pop and then the clutch cable suddenly gets so much slack that the ferrule is able to leave the housing of the clutch lever. The lever will not reset and the clutch is half engaged as I can hold the bike still with the brake without it stalling out, however it still tries to go forward at a slow pace with only little power when throttle up.I've checked the ***** and ramps both look good. The left pushrod, center pushrod and the right pushrod all look OK to me. So suggestions? Bike has 22K miles on it.

I have had that issue when my cable started to come apart. The wires were catching inside the sheathing. I would pull the cable and make sure it is able to move free

Just an update, after talking to an HD tech at the local dealership we looked up the specs on the clutch cable and noted that the travel lenght on the cluch cable is supposed to be 3 1/8" whereas the cable I have is 2 inches too long but 2.6 inches in travel. When doing factory service manual adjustment the cable pulls too far and causes a ball to jump it's ramp. PO had the clutch adjusted so that it worked but the cable is just not right for factory adjustment. I was able to get the cluch adjusted to the point that works.
