just got a chrome plate holder from J&P and can't see how to get the old one off. I thought the nuts were permanently mounted in the fender. so how do I get it off please. I should know better after 28 bikes nothing is as easy as it appears. Help! thanks

I replaced my plate holder with the HD curved one. I needed to take the rear lens and cover (Tail light) off to access the mounting bolts. Surprisingly, the bolts (mounting bolts for plate holder) fell through when I loosened the nuts. There is a plastic protector, for the wiring, under the fender which easily comes off. Hope this helps.

Recently had to remove my rear fender, and I found that the only way to remove the rear tail light and the license plate holder screws, was with the fender removed, or with the rear tire removed. I would have had no way to reach those bolts with the tire in place, without removal of the fender itself. I found that removing the rear fender was a breeze. Take off the rear seat and unplug the harness going to the rear fender. Remove the 3 bolts holding the chrome side pieces from side of frame to fender on both sides, and then carefully slide the fender out. You can apply some painters tape to both sides of the fender over the chrome side pieces, and under: thats just to help avoid any scratches on the fender. Then just slide it back and out. Easy. Now you can reach the tail light and license plate bolts. Took me all of 15 minutes to remove the fender.
