If I was shopping M8 but couldn't afford it, why would I buy an Evo, Shovel, or Pan?
Someone who was shopping M8 wasn't shopping for classics to begin with.

The 2018 lineup to me is an embarrassment. This is my opinion and Im old, I was raised in the 60s and 70s when the only one that had a Harley was usually in the hells angels and you better steer clear. These bikes to me look so stupid and so far off from what I got into Harleys for in the first place its ridiculous. Even HDs website shows kids riding around and tackling each other. This will be the last Harley I ever own, I got a 2008 fxstc because theyve at least got an old school look, these and the springers. How sad they sold out like this. They basically sold out their current clientele, disregarding what anyone thinks to try to capture the new crowd. What a bunch of douchebags.
Getting old sucks, dont blame younger generations for not being like you. This thread just sounds like a bunch of old guys dribbling in their pants dreaming about how the past was better. That is a movie cliche. Ride what you like and try not hating on those who chose different.
I dont think Harley sold out their current clientele, a large part of them stopped upgrading or quit riding. Harley did make a mistake with overproduction of the 14 to 16 years. Most rather see kids having fun riding than your nostalgic biker images with casino and restaurant shootouts memories dont you think?

Fairly certain they over produced through all of the twin cam years. They're awash in used stock from those years. Beneficial for people who want deals on a tried and true engine that has been through the ringer of modifications and upgrades. Bad for Harley who desperately wants people to embrace a new world where they don't want you to customize and are all too ready to void warranties.

I'm in debate about whether it was by "choice" or not. I don't think modern Harley want's anyone modifying their engine components no matter what the law states because simply put: it takes money away from the moco. The emissions law doesn't go after the moco because someone chooses to modify their bikes. It went after them because they were part in parcel with making their own product for skating epa regulations and incorporating it in their bikes even before or as part of the initial point of sale. Where companies like V&H makes products they clearly state are not epa compliant (used to anyway) and not for street use, HD as the manufacturer couldn't make that claim. If anything, the legal framework gives them more leverage to deny warranties because they now can point to a specific instance of the EPA fining them (but it doesn't require the denying of warranties). Harley still has that choice and since it is an easy scapegoat for them to blame a number of issues that may crop up with these new engines, they will use it to their advantage. This being a new engine, I absolutely got an extended warranty on my RGS and this is the first bike I've ever hesitated to change the pipes or other components ever. Because I don't know what the engine will do long-haul and don't want H-D to have that leverage.
