I dont like strangers coming to my house and joy ride my bike
I thought you rode the Ducati Panigale 1299 and your husband rode the Breakout, or are they both your bikes?
I have a 2017 Breakout with the SE 110 kit as well, and am not a fan of the drastic changes to the 2018, especially the smaller tank. The bottom of the frame is also much lower than the rear swingarm, which reminds me of a metric shaft drive cruiser frame.
Maybe the look will grow on me... meh who knows.
I would try selling your bike privately before ever trading it into the dealer. No test pilots without cash in hand.
Btw, I follow your husband's channel on Youtube. Loved the sound of the Big City Thunder baffles he had on the bike before he swapped them out for the V&H Quiet Baffles... hope you got that over heating problem solved with the new baffles.
We made the right choice with the 2017s. Don't ever regret it.
100% agree. Personally I feel that the 2017 is the best looking Breakout out of all the years. It was the look of the black and edge polished turbine wheels that hooked me bad. Could not stop thinking about the bike after seeing one in vivid black at the dealer, and pulled the trigger a few loooooong weeks after. No regrets.

I completely understand that, although I'd never let anyone actually ride it. Way too risky. But I agree, I don't really want strangers coming even to look at it.
It is a problem. But always trading in with the dealer costs so much, which is where we started
...However the new version lacks that classic look. It is not as chromed-up and distinct. This new one looks like a bunch of other bikes. Maybe it rides better--probably does...
I have to say that to the great majority of bikers, they wouldn't be able to tell the difference, let alone state which was 'better'.
The new one sits also 1.5 to 2 inches taller ... looks crap to me ... look at the FAT BOB for instance the rear fender is so high above the tire it looks horrible. I am interested in the 114 Breakout though
Well in fact the unladen seat height is only 0.4 inches higher in the new one. I sure wouldn't notice that.
I might prefer the previous fuel tank, certainly the larger size and the round gauge had a more classic look, but I'm not unhappy about the new digital readouts as I'm now more used to reading a numeric speed display and can find some analogue speedos really hard to read at a glance.
My main problem is I loved the previous 'Turbine' wheels and the new ones are not so appealing. Just something I have to factor in.
