My wife got a new 2017 Heritage at the end of August. She started riding on a Yamaha 650, moved to the Vstar 1100, then the Vstar 1300, riding about 90,000 miles over the last 12 years. She likes everything about the Heritage (smooth, well balanced, lots of torque, appearance, etc.) except for the "dance" she does at stop lights due to excessive heat. She literally has had burns on her calf while wearing jeans. She is short so her legs are close to the primary on one side and the pipes and oil tank on the other.
We have purchased new shocks and lowered the bike, as well as added a crotch cooler. Heat is still a problem, even after we've gotten into cooler weather in Colorado.
Yea they do get hot , you can get a tuner and richen it up and/or wrap your headers or there's a bunch of things .
Knock out the cats , oil cooler all sorts of things.

Iâve got a 2016 Fatboy lo. Yes stock it is warm. I put Vance and Hines slash cut slip on mufflers, installed an FP3 and K&N filter. The bike runs 10-20 degrees cooler but is still warmer than my 1999 Fatboy. Next Iâm looking into a serious oil cooler.
An oil cooler isn't going to help with the heat that she is feeling. As others have said, "Stage One and a good tuner" will help. I also found that wrapping the header actually produces more heat than non-wrapped with heat-shield.

Okay I shall tell you more:
#1 The OP states, his wife "does the dance at stop lights due to excessive heat" which obviously is coming for the exhaust. No oil cooler I've ever seen is going to reduce exhaust temps.
#2 have wrapped MANY pipes with DEI Exhaust Wrap, most recently a set of Bassani Pro Sweeps on my Slim. I have taken many temp readings using an IR thermo after a 1/2 hour ride and they all averaged 500+ F at the rear header by the manifold. Prior to wrapping the same pipes had an average of 380 F with the heat-shields on. Also it was using the same tune/map, though that wouldn't matter because the ThunderMax compensates on the fly.
Should also be noted that I think the OP is still running the stock system (i.e. No Stage 1)

I cut out the catalytic converter, wrapped the pipes with header wrap reinstalled the chrome heat shields, have a tuner, oil cooler, ventilator air cleaner, etc. etc. and you want to know what finally solved the heat issue with my 103 motor? Love Jug cooling fans.

You sexy beast ha ha !
This is why I owned a 2006 Glide Twinky for about 3 weeks and then went back to my cranky old Evo, told her I was sorry and she forgave me .
Still got the bitch too !.
