Any of you guys running the Harley flush mount fuel gauges? I've had mine on for about 6 months now and love the look of them.
My only problem is mine seem very inaccurate and unreliable when it comes to my actual fuel level. Sometimes I will have 3 dots left on the gauge but my low fuel light on the speedo will be on. Other times I will have 1 dot on the gauge but no light on the speedo. I usually go off my mileage on the trip anyway, but it would be nice to have a consistent gauge also. Anyone else have any similar problems?
I installed a new gauge pack at the time of purchase and it has always been more accurate then the gas cap gauge.
The gas cap is always showing lower than the gauge cluster.
Mine works as advertised. As I consume more fuel, less lights illuminate.
Kidding aside, mine is somewhat accurate and it coincides with the gauge on the speedometer.
I look for gas when there are 2 bars lit. When I see only 1 bar, which I don't let happen often, I look at my distance to empty estimate. At 25 miles I'm on fumes so it gives me an idea of urgency to find gas.
If I want the most accurate estimate I look at the trip odometer I use for miles on the tank.
Can you recalibrate it? I have the PM LED fuel gauge on my '05 and it always reads full and when I calibrate it it works in reverse. I suspect I need to change the wiring in it but I have not messed with it yet. I always go off mileage but that can vary widely as the 117" gulps fuel when hot rodding around town and gets amazing mileage when cruising on trips...
I mostly bought mine for looks also, I was just wondering if anyone else had the same issue. It's not a huge deal for me, I usually go off the trip odometer anyway. I will have to do some searching and see if there is a way to calibrate it. If not, it still looks 10x better than the stock gauge and fuel cap!
