Just to give you my .02

The frame definately feels much stiffer when pushed in corners. Don't know if it's "stronger", but it seems to flex much less, if at all.

Heat, I certainly feel much less as the rider. Might not mean it runs much cooler, but I'm happier in the saddle so I still count that as a gain.

Brakes, much better than my '09 Fat Bob (lighter) and '16 Road King (heavier) which both were dual disc. I'm guessing that combined with better handling might make some feel it's "safer". Anything that goes and stops better fits that bill.

Lighter, aside from the 30lbs I think has more to do with new geometry, and posssibly the impression off the stand. It certainly feels a lot lighter than 30lbs. It "feels" more like 100 less to me, but that's just a perception from things that aren't actually weight themselves.

Not saying any of this will make you happier, but I think that's were those comparisons are coming from.

Had a chance to look at a '17 Slim and '16 Heritage today...no question they are sexier looking to me. I'm going to see if I can improve my '18 in the looks and sound department. Otherwise really loving the bike overall. Maybe Harley will tweak the lines a bit down the road to regain some of the lost aesthetics and more people will be happy. Since virtually nothing else needs improving (for me) at least I'll have some aspect to tinker with in the mean time.
LOL, Not angry just stating that the salesman at the dealership said - almost the same thing that I've been hearing on here - Maybe many are "outside" of really knowing & just repeating what they hear in regard to the new bikes from what a salesman with 6 months of experience is telling them?

On a brand new bike things feel "tighter" - "better" than on an older model, rode them & when you start really looking at what many think is better - as a former mechanic I always think future & think maintenance! Let me tell ya - the butt hurt (the new saying I guess?) will be real strong, there are a lot of "cuts" to eliminate that weight you all think is awesome - & this is why ill sit back, wait & see what happens! I'm not big on the fastener locations, as well the tins are gauged lighter - these are just a few samples.

What I stated in the problem Dept. is real so all the hate on twin cams is not without throwing a stone at the M8 & its problems - remember the moco said those chain tensioner shoes weren't a problem??????

Nope don't have to work the weekend & I'm off today (Friday).

Ohh what to say to this, you`re funny - you post just to post & a lot of what you say has no substance. A bunch of single liners or in one thread you agree & on another thread same subject you disagree - however you have to fit in......!

I think you have a fetish with Butts of the male gender as you are always talking about it.......... perhaps the strong butthurt you feel the need to talk about is a reflection of the removal pertaining to your head from your own back side cavity - which has caused ...............yep your favorite saying BUTTHURT!

You're right it's early to tell how these Softails will shake out and age. The frame unification move had a lot to do with cost reduction and whether HD found a sweet spot of making something cheaper AND better will have to play out further. Obviously many are liking the early experience and I hope the tweaks that come later are more about looks than any fatal design flaw to the motor or frame. The motor remains my single favorite thing about the new bike, followed by the handling/suspension. Even the '17 M8s have many high mile units doing fine so fingers crossed for most of us. The early Twin Cams were all supposed to be time bombs too, but most are still on the road either because nothing went wrong or the weakness was identified and monitored/replaced avoiding catastrophe. Normally I wait until things shake out, but timing said "jump" so I did. I'm watching closely and so far I feel good about it but miles will tell. I'll always prefer my Evo to the Twin cam even though the TC has many improvements, and maybe you'll always prefer the Twin cam to the M8. The Twin Cams certainly nailed the look better than the Evo or M8 imo, but I still think they look great...plus mods mods mods. There's a lot of enthusiasm right now and maybe it's more than normal because the changes are such a fresh slate it breaks the mold and adds new possibilites.

Anyway, enjoy your day off today you lucky SOB! Hope you get a ride in.

This ‘18 Softail is so much better than my ‘03. The engine is much more powerful. The suspension is much better. That old bike would easily get unstable while leaning into a turn if I hit a bump or something. It was good for shots of adrenaline, but this bike is much safer. Keeps a straight line even when hitting the worst bumps during a lean. I don’t scrape the pegs nearly like I used to. Touch a boot heel now and then. I like it, cuz I’m weird I guess. Don’t want a sport bike. But anyway, these are tangible reasons that I can point to that make this bike dramatically better than my old bike.

I guess I’m also weird cuz I’m not just a fan of H-D motorcycles, but a fan of Harley-Davidson the company. It’s so strange how much people on this forum spew hate toward the company that makes the bike’s we enjoy so much. I think they employ some very talented designers and engineers. I wouldn’t hate if they came out with a bike frame aimed at people over 6’ (6’5” would be a good target, hint, hint), but I could say that about every car maker too. I make it work. I don’t hate them because they didn’t roll the bike off the line absolutely perfect for me. And have you noticed that they make cars lighter than they used to? Metal is thinner, and they do better on acceleration, mpg, and in a crash. My new bike performs better than my old bike. That’s real.

You know that saying, “If you don’t have something nice to say, ...”. No, I don’t think a lot of people on this forum go by that. The Internet brings out the troll in people. So eager to share negativity. I’m hoping at some point down the road all the bound-up panties get unwound regarding the new Softails. Maybe folks think I’m casting shade in their older model because I think my new model is better. I’m saying my new bike is better than my old bike. I’m not going into forums for older models and telling everybody why their bike sucks.

Don’t know what got into me this am. Guess I need to unwind my panties. I need to go re-read a thread on the cool step-by-step mod projects folks are sharing... remember why I like it here.

They're absolutely correct!! These new Softails are so absolutely hideous it's like staring at the Medusa head. They handle so poorly, are so under powered, and have such terrible suspensions that just today I rode home with one! And as far as downright scary ugly is concerned, I just started this thread:
