Glad I read this thread before picking my new bike up. Twice now I have put the stand down like I have for 30 years . Leaned the bike over and thought That's odd It doesn't lean as far as I remember. I rocked the bike froward and back seemed locked. Well it wasn't, both times the stand was stuck and dropped into place finally . I looked at stand and can't see what the issue is but now I know what it feels like..

Default Practice, practice and...

I guess with most things in life, it takes practice. With practice and exaggerated effort I have figured out the up and down position of the side stand.

Why did Harley try to fix something that wasn't broken?

Really? How much more can my old jiffy stand weigh compared to the new one? One ounce, maybe two? On something that weighs several hundred pounds, a couple of ounces isn't going to make a difference, especially if that weight savings comes at the cost of convenience and functionality. I would also think the old style jiffy stands are more stable than the new ones because the bike isn't as upright.

Style points for missing the issue. Thanks for the laugh though

Glad it’s not just me, granted mine is an ‘18 Low Rider but the new stands ain’t what they used to be. I had an ‘01 Deuce and there was no question when it was down and fully extended Like FrankEV, I laid mine on her side in the garage this week when it wasn’t fully extended. Bike is fine, my back not so much.

When I put mine down, I always pull the bike backwards a little while leaning it onto the stand.
I like it alot better than the older bikes, it seemed like the older ones didn't go forward enough and were unstable, I know they were good.

The only problem I have is when getting on the bike and backing it up into my garage after it has been parked.
When I stand the bike up, the kickstand stays down and is exactly long enough to drag the ground, so when I forget that it is down (being forgetful and hard of hearing) it snags on the raised concrete edge if the garage floor.
