Default Paint help! This will make you go hmm.

In 2017 I bought my family owned 1995 Heritage Softail Classic with 41,058 miles on her. I call her my green ****. Yes Green! There is no green paint code for this year. It is two toned it's a dark green, with silver or pewter, with a blue thin pin striping in the green and a gold thicker pin stripe separating the green and silver. It also has a almost light brown smoked like clear coating. I was told this was a special option from Harley Davidson and was a tester color scheme for the 96 model. Anyone know more about this, or if this is true. Even the local dealer is stumped. The reason I'm asking is cause due to the age wearing the clear and new gas caps that leaked I now have pealed paint and a messed up pin stripe. Anyone out there have knowledge to share it would be appreciated.

Look for a paint code sticker under front fender or under fuel tank.

That looks like FLSTN colors from '96 all right. The fact that it was damaged by spilled gas makes me question whether it's an original finish, though. Factory paint is pretty impervious to damage from spilled fuel. The factory paint on my tank is still perfect after 24 years, even around the gas caps.

It's hard to see in that photo, but the tank emblem doesn't look "factory" either.

That color scheme is not listed in the Data Book for a 1995 ... it reminds me of Mystique Green from 1996 ...

Could it be a 1996 ... have you run the VIN on the HD website? It could have been repainted as mentioned.

It was a dealer demo, never been repainted, was told by uncles it was a special tin set direct from Harley.

Gas ran out of tank for almost 2 hours before I was able to get back to the bike after filling it up. Cap seal crinkled let gas seep out.

Just an idea:
There are fuel tank filler paint saver rings that are chrome and are designed to cover-up damage and/or protect from damage.
Google :Paintsaver Plus Gas Tank Filler Neck Protector
If damage is covered by gas cap then a ready made product would probably be enough.
If damage is larger than cap, maybe have someone make two rings for you and have them chromed.
Then use some gasket dressing sealant to attach.

Yeah, I'm going to get it touched up for this season then in winter do a repaint. I ran into a old friend who said he give me a good deal. I get a ton of compliments on this bike so think I'm going to keep the same paint colors but going to change up the emblem. I think the clear over the years was rubbed off around the gas caps from fill ups with gloves on I'm guessing, but can't for the life of me understand the blue pin stripe. Thanks for the answers from you all.

That's a '95 tank, for sure. '96 and later, the tank bungs were "flush", with no raised edge. Thing is, that looks to be a set of 5.2 gallon tanks. An FLSTC should have had the narrower 4.2 gallon tanks. The 5.2 gallon tanks were only fitted to the FXSTC Custom and the FLSTN Special.
