Default '03 FLSTFI stalling

I thought I would post my recent experience just in case it might benefit someone else...

2003 FLSTFI, approx. 64,800 mi.

Problem started: 3/17/18 (got progressively worse).

Engine cutting out, stalling at random times, to varying severities. Poor starting when hot, sometimes. Sometimes, fast idle when hot. Stalling at stops. The events could be an hour apart or seconds apart, at highway speeds and slow speeds.

Work performed/result:

1. Partially cleaned the throttle body. Test ride showed problem still exists.
2. Cleaned the MAP sensor. Test ride showed problem still exists.
3. Cleaned the Intake Air Temperature sensor. Test ride showed problem still exists.
4. Checked for broken butterfly valve shaft and worn throttle body. Nothing found.
5. Inspected for loose or crimped wires and battery connections. Test ride showed problem still exists.
6. Replaced the MAP sensor with new. Test ride showed problem still exists.
7. Had codes read at the Harley dealer. They told me no codes were present.
8. Sprayed starter fluid all around the throttle body while running. No change in RPM.
9. Replaced the TPS sensor with new. Test ride showed problem still exists.
10. Replaced the coil pack with a known good, used one. Test ride showed problem still exists.
11. Replaced the Crank Position Sensor with new. Test ride showed problem still exists.
12. Replaced the ignition switch with a used one (great condition). Test ride showed problem still exists.
13. Replaced the Intake Air Control along with the Engine Temperature sensor.

Problem resolved. All work performed myself. Total cost $219.74.

But it sounds like still no good results?

Curious about your updates on this.

(Did you dump all the fuel and get fresh, new fuel?)

Sounds like 13 got the job done. Unless I'm reading it wrong.

Yes, the issue was resolved by replacing the Engine Temperature sensor. That is the 2nd temperature sensor I have had to replace. Seems like they last about 30k miles for me.

Strange, I have the same bike coming up on 50k, haven't had that problem yet. Thanks for sharing I'll go straight to 13 if I ever do.

I would say it was the IAC if it was replaced at the same time as the ET and nothing was tested/diagnosed.

The IAC, ET, IAT and coil could have been verified. Lots of parts replaced instead of diagnosed.

There is no way to clean a map sensor - it's a sealed pressure sensor.
