Saddlemen Seat
My Fatty 115th Anniversary
I have a 2018 115th Anniversary Fatboy with a Saddlemen seat with blue stitching to match the bike. The ugly protective film Harley puts on the fender is bad looking enough with the stock seat but even worse with my custom seat because the custom seat is narrower than stock. Sorry about not having a "before" photo but the stock film was bubbled wrinkled and the edges stood out. My corrective steps were as follows:
1. Removal of existing film: I started by peeling up a corner and slowly working my way around the film until I had pulled it completely off the bike. I did not need heat to accomplish the removal. I eliminated glue remnants with a microfiber towel soaked with mineral spirits. This step took some time, but gentle rubbing and letting the mineral spirits soak the glue did the trick.
2. Template drawing: I placed a piece of copy paper on the fender and set the seat on top of it so I could use a pencil to trace the shape of the replacement film using the outline of the seat as a guide.
3. Replacement Film: I went to the firm that had installed protective film on three of my cars and got them to cut me a piece of film that conformed to drawing on the copy paper.
4. Film Installation: I used an alcohol and water solution along with a plastic squeegy to install the film. The finished project has a few small bubbles that should dry up. I they don't, I'll use a needle to drain them and flatten them with the squeegy.
5. Tank Dots: After I removed my seat, I noticed rub marks on the rear corners of the fuel tank. I eliminated this problem by installing the clear dots shown in the photo. The dots don't show with the seat installed.
