2018 Speedometer Condensation?
Just about one month ago I stuffed a handful of these 10 gram Dry-Packs (Silica Gel Packets) from Amazon ($19.99) under the console and around the speedo.
I did not see an immediate result, but after about two weeks through till now, I have not gotten any moisture build-up in the speedo. Before I would get the build-up after about 20 minutes of riding. Now, after a two or three hour rides in hot sun with hight humidity, and even after being cought in a heavy down pour, no condensation.
I think they take a while to absorb all of the moisture out of the speedo.
Haven't changed them out yet, but as soon as I see any condensation build-up start again, I will replace them with new ones.
So. I finally took my bike in for first service (been raining a lot, stored in my garage, bike has never been in rain). Parts counter lady basically said, nope Harley isn't going to fix it. So I said, well cancel the first service, cancel all the parts I ordered, I'll be by today to pick up the bike. I was legit ready to just dump the bike back on the dealer. I did the same thing on my scout when they refused to fix 5/6 false neutral. She said fine and cancelled everything. Got a call not 10 minutes later from the service manager (apparently someone gives a ****). He was not happy I was dissatisfied. I told him my issue, that I was furious harley was going to **** me over a 300 dollar part when I bought a 16.5k dollar bike, and had already spent 500 in accessories, and was about to spend a good chunk more during first service (heated grips and cruise control).
He basically said, give me some time, I'll call harley main and see what I can do. He called me back about an hour later. This is his words, not mine. he said, Harley does know about the issue. There is some technical paper they do for mechanics at harley or some crap (don't know I'm not an expert). He then said he opened a case with harley main using the photos I gave. He said when harley finds a solution they will send me a notification and I will be able to come in and have it fixed so they can close the case. He seemed to indicate that it would just remain an open case until harley made good on it. He then said he could offer me a new speedo, but he would have to close the case unless the new speedo did the same thing. He seemed to indicate that it was roughly a 50% failure rate. Again, his words, not mine. 50% seems STUPIDLY high. If it is 50% for real, harley has a really big problem on their hands. I want to believe they are going to try not to fix this as much as possible. Fixing literally 50% of all bikes sold is a huge loss of revenue.
I was satisfied getting "in the system" with the fact that at least I would be getting a fixed unit when they solved the issue. So I told him I would wait and be satisfied having a case open. This is much more like I thought harley would be like. It is a new platform, and I was ready for some issues to crop up. It's that case with any new platform with any bike manufacturer. I was not ready to be told to **** off over a $300 part.
So long story short, Harley knows about the issue and is working on a fix. Probably is hesitant to shove replacement broken parts on bikes for the reasons displayed in this very thread (they just break again). For me, I opened a case with harley main through the dealer, you can decide what you want to do. I'm satisfied for now, and giving them the benefit of the doubt. If they end up not fixing it, I will be the first in line to **** ALL over harley in the future. A ****ing 3k dollar grom doesn't have this issue. It should be embarrassing for them.
Just because this post comes up in a google search, I will continue to post here in the future as I get updates.

So apparently Harley main got a hold of my photos. Which means they already looked at my open case. Frankly, that's much faster than I expected (days not weeks). They told my local dealer that they are aware of the issue, and are looking into it. They also said they they think mine is so bad that they should replace it because it's unreadable. So after my week long trip I'm taking here, I'll see about getting it replaced.
Pretty satisfied in the end. The upfront crap was dissuading, but it's ending pretty well. Hopefully harley figures out the issue.
