my 2002 xl1200c did it, my 2018 fxlr did it. The 30+ jap bikes I have had over the years never done it but figured it was just a Harley thing like the bikes marking their spot lol
No they don't. My '89 Sporty didn't, and neither did any of the three speedometers I had on my '94 FLSTN over the 25 years I had it.
My first two Harleys 1987 anniversary 1100 edition and my 2000 never had this problem. Only my 2019 Fatboy 114 developed it in 1000 miles. I bought it this past September. I have posted that the dealer did replace it recently under warranty. I will wait and see.
My 07 Night Train, 02 Road King, 16 Iron 883 never had the issue. My 18 low rider fogs up every time the sun hits it. Funny thing is the speedo does but my tach doesn't. they must be made in different plants lol
They are not sealed. every Harley i have every owned has the same problem. 99 Fatboy, 2001 FXDX, 2006 heritage Springer, 2018 Fatbob. for the fatbob, i've re-mounted it with a kit above the handlebar. From all the discussions in the forums, there seems to be air going under the dash, and when out in the sun, it creates a temperature difference, enough to create condensation under the glass. I move the speedo/tach to my eyeline, couldn't see the LCD for the speed on the bottom of the speedo, when condensation happens. Seems to be ok now, without doing any drilling. And yes all the speedos from Harely are not sealed. i changed the previous ones to Dakota Digital versions.
I had same situation on my FLFBS 2019 Fatboy 114. I read several of these complaints on this forum with several solutions. I brought the bike to my local HD dealer with pictures of the the condensation at different mileage as it did not occur all the time. I mentioned the various solutions to the service manager and he told me every one of them would have voided the warranty. They ordered a new speedo and installed it the other day under warranty. The reason for this post is that I noticed that under the glass of the new one in the area of digital read out, I believe I see, when looking at an angle, what looks like a clear sticker or decal. This may be a HD fix as I don't recall seeing this on the old one.
Update, my replaced factory still working without any condensation. 3,500 miles since replaced
Just to add to the convo. Im glad i searched first and foremost... But my 19 Fatboy just had this issue today. I was shocked to see condensation in the gauges of this newer bike. I had these issues on my 09 Electra as well though. Im guessing i can chalk it up to humidity change from climate controlled garage to the hot friggin day it was today.
