Default Brake/directional light US to UK spec

Hi,
I have a 2006 softail deluxe FLSTNI. Imported from US to UK. I cant get it past the MOT due to the rear directional lights staying on solid when braking. This is legal in the US, but not in the UK. It appears that there are two wires going to each directional light with no obvious sign of a jumper wire going to the brake. Does anyone have any ideas of how to keep the lights separate during braking?

Thanks

Explain it better, Are you saying you turn on the signal (left or right) then when you hit the brakes they stop blinking and stay on solid?

[QUOTE=jumpingjack;19205742]Hi,

Thanks for the reply
When I apply the brakes and if I'm indicating one continues blinking the other is solid. If I'm not indicating, but braking, both indicators and brake light come on solid. Essentially I want them to be independent from each other.
I had to swap the US red lenses for the indicators to amber, UK spec does not allow for this combination described above.

If you can’t get an answer here you could give ‘lighting services classic and custom motorcycles’ a ring they are in Trowbridge. They’re on 01225 785164.

Sounds like there’s a run/brake/turn module installed.

The UK spec doesn't allow for amber brake lights, so you will have to add a normal red light that just stays on and intensifies during braking, that is perfectly allowed.

The light above my numberplate is wired like that, and the indicators are amber in the fender support (in my signature picture you can see that)

Alternatively get a light with red centre for running/braking and amber surrounds for indicating.

I think (but could be wrong) that his issue is the running signaling and braking lens were red. And the UK wants amber running and turns and red only braking.

Looking at the diagram

I cannot see a connection between the stop light switches and the indicators. I wonder if someone has fitted a run/stop/turn module to your bike?

Anyway someone has created the unique problem that you cannot have a red flashing brake light and you cannot have a non flashing orange indicator.

Should also add similarly you have to remove the blue wires to the front turn signals so they don't function as running lights.

Possibly if the MOT guy is a real stickler you would need to add the parking / position lamp to the headlamp.

That was my thought in post 5. He said he'd check but hasn't checked back.
