I have a new (to me) 2006 Softail Deuce (picture of the bike is in signature below). I am 6'2", with a 34" inseam and my legs feel a bit cramped on the pegs in their stock location. I am thinking about extending the foot controls and changing the seat to a La Pera Bare Bones Solo seat. I think these two mods will give me a few more inches of leg room, so I can extend my legs to a more comfortable position.
For those of you Softail owners who have a foot control extension kit installed on your bike, please answer some questions I have about them. I do understand that the Deuce is a bit longer than other Softails and that some Softail parts don't fit on a Deuce:
- What kit did you install?
- How is the legroom for you (please include your height & inseam measurement, so I can get a sense of how you size compares to me)?
- Do I need to replace the brake foot control arm? It looks like once the pegs are moved forward, you would need to change the brake arm, so it can curve around the peg. Am I wrong about that? If that is true, what model brake arm did you use?
- Anything else that is important to know, before I order parts?
Arlen ness 3" kit, comes with brake line and shift linkage. Bolt on, affordable and uses all stock foot controls and brackets because it moves the entire mount forward 3", pegs levers and all. You will have to bleed the brakes. I'm 6'6", it could be better for me but at your height it'll probably be just right. I've used it on all of my softails, you can check my albums for more pics.

That's the kit, yes. If it fits your model. I chose this kit over an aftermarket set because it keeps the stock look and position related to height and provides the largest amount fo room at 3", some aftermarket models have the peg situated higher and to me just don't look like they belong. I've tried everything with foot controls and seats, yes. The badlander that was on the bike was OK, but seats are tricky and can be a costly "experiment". The stock seat on my model is like a La-z-boy but the look is too puffy for being in bar hopper mode. I was lucky enough to score a retro king and queen seat, but will be taking it to Mean City Cycles for a memory foam mod or gel insert as this seat really doesn't have anything much.
