The Mikuni HSR 42 is a quality part.
It is probably overkill for any stock or mildly-tuned motor.
However, one thing any motor can benefit from the Mikuni is....throttle response.
The Keihin/H-D CV carb has poor throttle response. It's the nature of the design. You can't change it.
Once you've installed a Mikuni, you have bought your last carb. It is a firm foundation for any and all motor mods you wish to do.
Your right mate, I had mine fitted on Tuesday and the throttle reponse is excellant compared to the CV. It seems to have plenty more torque down low as well.
I am very happy with my decision and as you said it is a great base for later mods....which in time will be heads and cams..
