Cool Strange idle problem

I bought a '99 Fatboy off of the local dealer. I felt I got a decent deal off of him, as they did a lot to the bike...new tires, battery, new brakes and rotors, rebuilt the carb. This is the first big twin I have ever owned. I love riding it. Okay, the problem. I stopped for gas at BP the other day. When I fired the bike up, I noticed the idle was up. Not to much, but not the loping that I am used to. I figured I would look at it this afternoon. I decided to take a ride to my dads this morning, and the idle was still higher. On the way their it started to rain, so I turned around and came home. I decided to leave the bike run as I opened up the garage door. When I put it on the kick stand, the idle went to normal. I stood the bike back up and it picked up. I put it down again, same thing. Did this several times to make sure I was not imagining it. It's a S & S "E". Has anyone heard of this problem? I have a good basic understanding of carbs and can't understand what would cause it to do this. Any help would be appreciated. The choke lever is normal tight. Thanks, Steve

Pretty sure it has a pull and push cable setup to the carb. One gives throttle, other is a safety pullback. They are out of adjustment. Just an opinion from what you say about upright and stand. Moves the bars affect idle if cables are not set correctly.
Welcome from Hampton Roads Virginia. add another line to your signature on your bike similar to mine for year, model and letters

I looked at them, and there seems to be some play in them. I will pull the air cleaner and see if I can adjust them. Thanks!

I appreciate the printout. It will help immensely!

Air leaks on the intake side will cause higher idles. Check the intake seals by spraying starting fluid around them while running tonsee if it gets sucked in and the idle increases.

Could be the cables too. Move rhe bars around and see if the tension chamges the throttle.

good luck
