Default Help!, a newbie pipe question!!!

Guys,

Okay need some advise! I have a new 2007 Deluxe and I've read all the posts on here about the various Slips-ons, mapping, ECM's all that. SoI'm thinking Rush 1.75 slash cuts. So I go to the dealer and he quotes me $310.00 for the pair, I'm thinkin WOW that's great. I go to the service guy and he says "you gotta do a stage one upgrade" and wants to charge me an additional $500.00 to add the air cleaner, map and to do the work. He says you gotta let it breath. Okay so that makes sense but an additional $500.00? So here's my question. Do I need to remap my bike just to change the mufflers to get the sound I want? Why is downloading a map and upgrading my ECM so expensive?Am I missing something here??? Is this something Ican domyself?WillI stillbe California legal.....so many questions I think my head's going to explode!!!

i have the 1.75 on my standard rush told me that i didnt have to map with the 1.75 but if i went to the 2.0 baffle or higher that i would have too ,the bike runs good with the 1.75 but to me it aint loud enough if you like loud ... i want to go to the 2.0 baffle but the dealer told me to order them and see how the bikes runs take out the plugs and if there white or the bike runs bad then i would have to get some fuel management ... but they also told me that it would cost about 800 bucks because they have to put it on the dyno ... so for now il staying with the 1.75 it sounds better then stock at least ...

I am a newbie also, and the dealer gave me the same run around on the slip-ons. Talk to a bunch of people on here and they said I would be perfectly fine with just the slip-ons for now as long as I do not do the air cleaner. I brought my 07 Night Train home two weeks ago and put the rush 2.25" on myself. It was extremely simple. Take the bolts off holding them to the frame, loosen the clamps and pull and twist with all your might to get the old ones off. Slide the new ones back on and reverse the steps. I was riding again in 30 minutes. I have had no problems with the new slip-ons. I have had a very little decel popping with them, maybe twice. I am sure with the 1.75" baffles you will have no trouble at all.

Guys

This sounds encouraging! so how much louder than stock are the 1.75's? Remember I live in California. I also don't want to void my warranty either. So keep the experiences coming gang.

The key thing the service guy said was AC upgrade. If you do that then you really do have to remap the ECM. Just putting the Rush slip ons on the bike will not void the warrenty or require the ECM to be remapped to stage 1. You can do that yourself if you want to later either by having the dealer install a canned Stage 1 map (about $150) or getting a PCIII or SERT and doing it yourself with a desktop or laptop PC at home. Just be aware that those options are going to cost you a bit more. But will allow you to modify more engine partslater (cams, head work, bigger cylinders, etc.) without spending any more money.
As for the baffle size, that's up to you. Personally I wouldn't go bigger than 2" if your worried about the local law getting upset with you. If the 2" proves to be a bit too loud for you there is always the option of getting a pair of 1.75"'s later.

Just curious because I've ordered 2" for my new Deluxe, what do just the baffles cost?

I put Rush slip ons with the 2" baffle on my 05 Fatboy and did nothing else. They sound good and have had no problems. Bike runs great. Based my decision on all the reading I did on this site over a 2 month period. Also emailed the folks at Rush and they responded promptly to all my questions. That was what really sealed the deal. Customer Service!!!

I emailed Rush today to ask about 50 state legality and weather they thought I needed a remap.

I've got the Rush with 2 1/4" baffles and the parts guy tried to sell me the A/C and electronic upgrade for the 7 to $800 area. I said all I want is sound and he said well really you don't need the electronics unless you change the air filter.
My run perfect and none of that poping everybody is talking about on delecleration with the electronic change.

Get the Rush 1st and do what else you want later on.
