I'm happy up to about 80mph with no windshield, after that the wind blast gets a bit much for long stretches. If i was covering big miles a lot, i'd definitely want one. Not having a windshield keeps me at more legal speeds and probably saves my licence.
I've been riding a lot around the Kansa City area and it's frikin windy. I tried several windshields and moving them up and down but could never find the 'sweet' spot. In short, the last year I've been riding with no shield and it's ok. I've gotten used to being blown around the highway and that took about a year and a half. If I did long rides it would be different but for under an hour, leave the shield at home.
I’ve driven north on ca1 from Santa Cruz past Napa, (against the wind on California coast)... and S/W through the narrow pass by Gilroy into Watsonville,... those two spots without a windshield literally wore me out and blew my helmet off... I’ve learned to check wind patterns before rides and plan accordingly,.. for me the buffering of windshield jacks up my vision, freaks me out, I’d rather plan around the high winds, I can’t really explain why, I just know

sounds to me like your windshield height is wrong for you. I get no buffeting at all with my setup.
