Last week I noticed that my 2007 FLSTN was scraping the ground over the smallest dips in the road. Took the bike in Wednesday for the 1000 mile and...the shocks are no good. So now I have to wait a week for new shocks to come in. The service manager called me and said it was a serious problem and one that was quite unusual. So my question is, "What about scrapes on my frame?" Any suggestions?
If the frame is scraped because shocks failed in 1000mi., I'd expect it to be covered by warrenty. A scraped up frame will invite rust, so its not just a cosmetic problem.
I agree - let us know how it works out! Any and ALL damage caused by this problem should be covered under your warranty. They kicked out a product with a problem, they should fix the problem and cover the repairs without question.
The shocks should be a free replacement. As far as the lower part of the frame you should DEMAND from the dealer a couple of HD BLACK spay on paint and a can of HD clear. Do the job your self. Use a very thin sand paper to get a working surface and cover all parts on the bottom. spray lightly on the lower frame and aply at least 5 full coats then 3 clear. let it all set and keep an eye for paint bubbles.
If the dealer says he will do it keep an eye of what he does.
