Default Re-mapping

I’ve got hopefully an easy question, I’ve got an 06 night train, 95” build, cams air cleaner etc. when I got the bike it had a V&h pro pipe 2-1 on it, I loved the performance but hated the look. Also had a SERT on it as well I changed to a set of python duals and put a thunder max on it. I would’ve kept the SERT but I was told by the dealer it was too old to re program (it’s the orange SERT) so I went with the thunder max. I feel like I’ve had nothing but problems since the thunder max was put on, weird idle, random stalling, it hates to just cruise around town. Runs great at highway speeds, just doesn’t feel the same as it did, probably put 3000 miles on since the thunder max because I wanted to give it time to work. Changed intake gaskets, TPS, cleaned intake and injectors, checked fuel pump, changed plugs and wires, changed air filter. It does run better cold than warmed up. No problems starting. So after all of this back story did I really need to change the tune when switching exhaust or would it be safe to go back to the tuned factory ECM just to see if my problems are T-max related THANKS

Why not give Thunder Max Tech Support a call and let them help you sort it out? You have a 3 year warranty and with the level of financial investment you have into the changes to your Night Train, I would not just toss it on the shelf.

First question... What do you think the T-max is going to do for you that the stock ECM can't? Personally, I'd say you would have been better off keeping the stock ECM and just getting it re-tuned after making the component changes.

To old to program? Maybe by the dealer but the old SERT is still usable...

Hell for 1/3 of the price of a TM you could go with a SESTP

It was running great and all you changed were the pipes and the ECM... correct...? If it was already tuned for all your mods, probably would have run well with just that pipe change...

Usually... if you do some work, and a problem surfaces.. it will have something to do with what you worked on (or touched/moved/damaged when working on it)...

Barring a bad exhaust leak, the ECM change is most likely was causing your issues... sounds like the tune is way off... I believe your '06 does not have O2 sensors... doesn't the Thundermax use O2 sensors? Did you add them to the pipes? Do you have them in the correct position (front & rear)? Did you get the right tune map on the Thundermax?

What led you to: "Changed intake gaskets, TPS, cleaned intake and injectors, checked fuel pump, changed plugs and wires, changed air filter." Were there some diagnostics done that led to those repairs, or were you just throwing parts at the problem....? From personal experience, I can tell you that throwing parts at a problem gets expensive and sometimes never fixes the problem. It's hard sometimes, but you need to focus on the symptoms, do some checks, then replace parts if you find something broken. Always start with what was changed and work out from there..

The Delphi ECM is pretty good... I would have kept that and worked with it; dyno tune, PowerVision w/new map & a couple autotune runs, or other flash/add-on tuner.

Since you spent the money on the Thundermax, and many sing its praises, I'd call them and try to get the tune squared away...

Good luck with the fix.... you'll get there...

Having run Thundermax in most of my bikes, I'd venture to say that you've selected an incorrect map. Under normal circumstances if you choose a map within the TMax close to your config, then the TMax will account for the rest.
