I rode a VTX 1800 for nine years, 1795cc, 110ci. Great bike. Lots of get up and go. But the pure grunt that this Fat Boy has still amazes me. I can hit the throttle in any gear, and so long as my revs are 2K or better the bike will take off (less rpm's needed in certain circumstances of course). I've come close to coming off the seat a couple of times when road changes caused me to blip the throttle unexpectedly. I love this bike. Fit and finish are great, I've had no problems with it, and it can do more in the corners than I would have expected or was led to believe from reviews before I bought it. I'd buy one again. Harley did good on the new frame, suspension, and motor on the Softail line imo.

Price is fair for NADA's 2018 average retail plus Doc fees and they will charge more for a 2019 when they are available later this year. The warranty starts with purchase but the value will be slightly less out the door due to more depreciation over time for 2018's than a 2019. You might compare the two and see which is of greater value to you. They should be the same motorcycle as far as build.
The M8 Softail is a different newer bike than the M8 Touring. Engine, frame, suspension, handling, and so on vary and in my experience the Softail is better for my needs. The Touring engine has had problems for some and the frame and suspension should be upgraded (maybe that's your experience). I rode a 2017 Street Glide recently next to my 2018 Deluxe and preferred the Deluxe. But if you need a big bike the Softail may not work.
Edit: Here's a quick check form one dealer for 2018-19 Deluxe pricing B4 fees: https://www.laidlawsharley.com/new-h...xnewinventory#

You were looking at Ultras. Sounds like you were looking for a touring bike. The Heritage in the softail group is just one step down from being a touring bike.
All that being said, if you love chrome, the Deluxe is the winner.
Also, based on the book price, with the 2019's on the floor, $18,800, even OTD, does not sound like a great deal to me.

Good point about the Deluxe vs Heritage.....if you want bags and pillion seating with a shield already installed. I'm a whitewall and spoke plus chrome guy. Adding a shield, engine guard, and rear Motherwell rack was all I wanted. Wife stays at home with my life insurance policy in hand.
OTD is somewhat dependent on what the state and local taxes are in your area. In Texas, they can add up to 6.75% to the sale price OTD. Also, some dealers may or may not include your 1000 mile services, etc. If you are happy with the deal, go for it.
Actually Im keeping my Goldwing for the long hauls. Ill just need a few items on the Deluxe. Windsheild ... some sort of backrest .. probably go with Ultimate once my X's Ultimate is sold. Then maybe engine guards and something detachable that I can carry my laptop in.
I actually bought one. $18,548 financed at 2.99 for 72.
Includes Gap, 4 year EPS, 4 year tire and rim, $250 gift certificate, tee shirt. We still have some bad whether here in NC. They also delivered the new bike and picked up the trade. The cost of the bike is listed as $14,977.37. I think this is a pretty good deal.
Hope this one doesnt give me as much trouble as the other two.

That OTD price sounds about right to me but remember I'm in Cali and bikes/dealers price are a bit more here. The Deluxe is such an instant classic even new. One of my fav Harley and will own one someday.
