Smile Should I TRADE My SOFTAIL DELUXE for ROADGLIDE CLASSIC??

CORRECTION: Sorry, I meant ROAD KING CLASSIC

I'm thinking I may have screwed up buying my '07 Softail DELUXE with bags and windshield, chrome front end and some other options......

Problem is, I'm 61, 6'3" and 220lbs so I'm NOT comfortable on this DELUXE.

I bought it at the right price, $14,000.00, original owner paid $23,000.00 out-the-door 12 months ago.........

Are the road kings and these other touring bikes really more comfortable than a DELUXE????
(Sounds like a stupid question, I know, I guess I'm trying to justify switching bikes!)

I haven't been hanging around the "touring" section so I guess I'll start.

Thanks for any sympathy you might offer!

I am shorter than you and just sold my Deluxe and bought an 09 Ultra. I loved the Deluxe, but it was to small even for me. I have NO regrets trading. I can't speak for the RK, but I think the street glide, Road Glide or the Ultra is your best bet with your height and age. I for one would recommend an 09 touring bike. I sure like the 09 Ultra. I also love the street glide. Good luck, but DO IT, I promise you will be glad you did. Your WAY too tall for a Deluxe.

It will be like night and day for you. I'm 6'4" @ 240 and there is no way I would ever go back to a softail except maybe as a local bar hopper..
GO RENT rent a Road Glide for the day & ride the hell out of it on ALL TYPES of roads & highways. You'll know then for yourself.
I've been riding for over 40 yrs and my RG is the Best handling bike Harley's ever made and I've had many HD's & others in the past.

Don't Trade the Deluxe - Sell It!!! You'll make out better in the long run

I just traded my '08 Deluxe with similar extras for an '09 Road King Classic and have absolutely no regrets.

Actually, the Deluxe was a better fit for my size (5'6" 135 lbs), but I wanted ABS and true duals that were designed for the bike (not an add-on). For a better fit on the RKC, I got the reach seat and the low shocks.

300 miles on my RKC and I'm not looking back at all. The style/character of the RKC is indeed the classic HD.

I should also add that I did not care for the small tombstone tail light of the Deluxe. I even replaced the light bulb with an LED tail light, but the concept of "tombstone" has a negative connotation in my book. I'm not supersticious at all, but I don't like negative messages.

I have an 07 RG, am 6'1" and 195 lbs. The inseam is 32". If you have long legs you'll probably want to put a different seat on. Get something that moves you back a bit and maybe up too. If you don't like the wind you may want to put a taller wind screen on. I have lower fairings and highway pegs so I can change my leg/foot position often. I'm still going to replace the seat with a Mustang. I put on lowers, King tour pak, CB radio, back rest my Garmin GPS. After 16 months I'm pushing 21,000 miles. My RG is a great bike!

You're asking about the Road Glide. There is not a Road Glide "Classic" model. There is an Electra Glide Classic however. So I assume you're asking about the Road Glide, but either way Touring bikes are the way to go. For anyone who likes long distance rides, touring bikes are where it's at. Having said that, the Deluxe is a great bike too...just not designed for the same job as Touring.

I have 07 road king classic, very comfortable at 6', 220 lbs with tallboy seat. We've put over 24,000 miles sinc 6/07 and loved every one of 'em. Can't go wrong with any of the touring bikes in my opinion.

Find a dealer that will let you do a test ride on the RK and decide for yourself that is the only way you will know for sure.

I am 6'0" and 215 , and this is my third sharknose .. I have a couple Hot Rod Harleys , but for everyday riding I have the RG ..

Never look at anything else as an everyday rider .. If you want the TourPak , you'll have to order it , mine took about two weeks to arrive ..

Even with the TourPak you come in over a grand under the EG Ultra ..
