I have a 2016 Heritage with a 103 with S&S 583 cams and now I am shopping for the best cam plates and possible oil pump. The three I have been looking at is Screaming Eagle, S&S and Fueler. They all look good and they all have good features. Which one would you recommend and why?
Thank you for your advice
This video may help you with your decision? I chose Screamin Eagle for my 2 previous builds though my decision was more about the brand than scientific.
I have a '16 Ultra Classic (103ci, air-cooled), and I am gathering parts for a stage II with CR-570-2 cams.....
I'm stayin with OEM cam plate and oil pump. The OEM stuff is more than capable for a 103ci w/cam (and even more).
I also have two pre-'07 twin cam bikes, an '01 Springer (88ci) and '03 Heritage (95ci). When I upgraded from the spring to hydraulic tensioners on those two... both got conversion cams, and both got the '07+ cam plate and oil pump.
The '07+ cam plate and oil pump are perfectly acceptable, except maybe for a radical build. The others look prettier (can't see them once the engine is put back together), probably technically better, and are certainly more expensive, but they aren't going to make the engine run faster, better, or longer than the OEM stuff.... FWIW...
Having said all that, if I was planning a very big bore (117ci+), very high HP build, I would go with S&S cam plate & pump.....
PS- I'm talking about the Twin Cam... not even going to comment on the HD M8 oil pump/cam plate/sumping fiasco....

Is there a reason you want to change? To the best of my knowledge there arent any known issues with the 103s cam chest. Obviously the 88s were junk but the 96/103s are fine.
That said, Ive got the SE hydraulic setup in mine and it has been 100% reliable and worry free but thats because I initially had junk hahaha.

To be fair, the 88 cam plates were not junk.
Their spring cam tensioners were poorly designed/implemented and the tensioner pads were sub standard... If the 88 cam plate had hydraulic tensioners attached, no one would be talking about the 88ci cam chest.
The 88 oil pump flows a little less oil than the '07+ oil pump, but its flow is adequate for an 88/95 engine..
