Dear All I need a little help I have brought a New Harley Davidson Street Bob 2018 in Hong Kong. After completions of my first servicing and done about 1800 KM I started to hear a whirring noise between the 40 to 45 KMPH only on that speed I can hear the noise I have taken the bike to the Harley Showroom but they are unable to solve the problem.
While riding I keep hearing the noise only at the speed between 40 and 45 KMPH.
Suggestion are welcome.
Are you hearing the noise in any gear? Only when moving, or also when stationary in neutral and reving to the equivelent RPM? If you can produce the sound by reving while still, its likely the motor, or counterbalancers. If it only happens while moving its likely either your belt, transmission, wheel bearings, or something vibrating. It may be a normal sound regardless of where it is coming from. These bikes make noises. More info is needed to generally diagnose. If its behaving and performing normally otherwise and your Harley dealer techs have declared that its fine Id continue riding it and enjoying until something more obvious presents itself. Hopefully at that point the tech can identify it and your warranty will step in to help correct it.
Get up to the speed where you hear the noise. Then reach over and hold the gas cap. If the noise goes away, that's your issue - it's very common on the new Softails. The gas cap buzzes like a wasp.
There are some easy fixes if you google for it - including a replacement gas cap, a cheap aftermarket replacement gas cap or a little surgery on the rattling gas cap with a hammer and screwdriver.
