Default 2018 Fat Bob mods are starting... again

Well now I’m on my second 2018 Fat Bob I’m going to do more mods and I’ve been collecting parts for the last week or so. The goal is to have LEDs, bags and plate relocation.
So the biggest thing I haven’t worked out is the hard “bags” that I have in two sizes. I plan to make a quick detach so I can swap between large and small cans. I saw a FB on you tube that had some mounted (last two pics) but don’t know if they are removable. I think they really go with the lines of the bike and also they were already painted pretty much the same color on my cans. I’m only in about $45 on the ammo cans so far so if I don’t like it not a big loss. Also I’ll be able to run them a little further back as I won’t have blinkers any longer.

Well they are sturdy! What about those latches, they are going to rattle like crazy going down the road?

they are pretty solid actually. I’m still waiting on the quick release brackets to come in so I can figure out the mounting part.

I did get get most of the rear done today

I didn’t realize the LED that I mounted doesn’t have the ability to dim with the wiring I have at the moment so I’m putting an LED plate on until I figure that out. I mounted the stock plate light on top of the blackmill bracket (I’ll take a pic tomorrow when I take the fender back off) as if fits really good with some double sided tape.
I’m also going to work on the front signals and cruise tomorrow.

Oh and on the ride this morning I got the infamous gas cap rattle. I thought you guys were exaggerating it but wow it makes a racket.

So I have the ability once I install the resistor (I have to order another one as I only had one) to dim this LED strip I have installed so I can have tail, stop and turns. The stock tag light being underneath.
Or I can install small LED strips down the side of the blackmill bracket as in the second pic for turns.
Does that look too busy?
I cant get the LED plate frame on without tearing the LED strip I have installed already out to make room.

Here is is a pic of the plate with its ton of wires. They really could clean that up with just one heat shrunk wire harness coming out at one location but otherwise it’s a nice plate and fits the curve perfectly.

Looks mean without a fender. Just install one of those springer seats and take the front fender off for that bar bike look. seems really easy to swap between the two looks.

I decided to ditch the led plate and keep the bar under the fender. Just waiting on the resistor so I can have the taillight all the way across as right now it’s just half the bar.
Once that’s good I’ll solder/heat shrink everything to try and keep the wiring looking factory.

Have many folks heard of the “gas cap” rattles after getting the engine “tuned”. I heard this rattle very infrequently but My fat bob did not have the full rattle sound until I chenged to some high flow slip ons and removing the packing. Then I started hearing this rattle that sounds like what everyone was describing as the gas cap rattle. Did some research and saw some examples of lean engine pings/knock. Very odd since I never had it prior months. Well I ended up hooking an Fp3 (no warranty questions please) and I loaded a map and did some auto tuning. And the sound was gone completely. I gotta say there is a big difference in how she rides now to how it was when she was running lean. Going through the gears felt longer and much easier. Definitely doesn’t feel so tightly wound up. Only way I can describe it.
Anyway just thought if what people were hearing as gas cap rattling is really engine pinging. Food for thought. (I could be way off here though and it was just a coincidence for me)

I haven’t done anything to the engine and it definitely is the cap as I can put my hand on it and it will stop.

ive got halfway into wiring the led signals and while they look awesome the thickness makes my mirror rod almost too short. I’m a little worried about falling off with vibration. I’m going to figure that out once I’m complete.
