Default New Starter FLSTC

Ok, don't bust my chops. I did a search and didn't find what I was looking for. Can anyone recommend a good aftermarket replacement starter for an 07 heritage (FLSTC). I've put two starters in my bike and the current one is due for a change, again! I don't want an OEM, because I'm sick of their inherent problems.

Oh, if anyone has any ideas/tricks on how to replace it without removing the oil tank I'd like to hear it. It's a pain to take that thing out.l

Is it the starter shot or just the drive?
Had good luck with All ***** starter drive.
easy to change.

Can't help with any recommendations but I was wondering why are you eating up starters?
I've got 35K+ on my 2009 and it's got the original starter that still seems to be going strong.

You state you are "sick of their inherent problems" but I don't recall reading much if at all about OEM starter problems.

The first starter went out at around 40K miles. It was grinding when hot. IE, the bendix failed to engage completely. I had a new starter installed and it began to do the same thing about a year later. I now have 75K miles on the bike and it's grinding badly again, when hot. That is a problem inherent to Harley starters; very common. You'd think Harley woukd fix their design, but no..

That's why I'm looking for an aftermarket. Why go to the trouble, $$ and install another known problem. By the way, it costs $800 to have Harley replace the starter. Not going there again..

The grinding sound is caused by failure of the starter over run clutch.
Remove the starter and replace the starter clutch, or take the starter to a starter repair shop and have it done.
These are common automotive starters, nothing special about them.
Stop buying starters...

No recommendations? I've been looking at some aftermarket high torque starters, but I'm not sure which might one to go for. They're nearly the same price as standard designs. But, again I'm not sure which one will be the most reliable. As to just replacing the starter clutch/drive gear, again there are multiple suppliers. I'm considering the All ***** maybe. There isn't much info on them..

How long have you had it installed? I decided to check on the current price of a Harley starter today. $445 plus tax. A complete All ***** high torque starter is $337. That looks like the real way to go, but I'm undecided at the mommet. Strange that I can't find any reviews on the thing..

Oh, do you have only the starter clutch/gear or the whole starter?
