Maybe the tanks are built differently for the non USA market.
Maybe the tank was already full when trying to fuel it but didn't show full on the gauge.
I've not fueled my new bike yet but on the Street Glide and every other bike, I didn't put the nozzle deep into the tank and can observe the fuel level when it got close to the top.
I've got split tanks with 2 fill holes. So it's a non issue for me.
To the OP, ignore the whiners in line behind you. In a few minutes you will be riding with a big smile on your face and they will still be stuck in their rattletrap cages.
Even I am confused. The gas gauge was giving all wrong information, I was burping the tank. Anyway after the dealership removed the gas float and reset it the problem seems to have resolved itself. The last refill worked perfectly so keeping my fingers crossed for future refuels. Since the bike is in warranty the dealership said that they will order a gas float in case the problem recurs. In the meantime waiting for my Stage 2 kit.

This is just a guess, but if your Gas guage reading was off, maybe you had more gas in the tank than you thought and you were trying to put more gas in than it could hold, thus the belching of gas..? Only a guess mind you.
Most likely that was it. But today again the gas guage has gone bonkers. At times it shows full, then the bars will show quarter, then half full. I called up the dealership and they are ordering the float and changing the unit as it is in warranty. It will take more than a month for the part to arrive. Till then I will have to go with the erroneous information but at least now I know where the problem lies.
Well, in that case just fill it by eye. Don't put the gas nozzle down in the tank. Catch the end on the nozzle on the fill ring with the holes in it. Fill while looking down in the tank for the fuel level. I do that on my bike and I fill mine all the way up to the ring..
