New to the forum. I’m looking for some help/advice/information.
I have a 2003 fatboy with 88” fuel injected 5 spd. Stock motor with air cleaner, pipes and SE race tuner. Developed a rod knock. Now I don’t know what to do.
I am talking to a fella 100 miles away from me that has a 96” with 6 spd trans out of a 2007 night train. Did some research and got mixed answers about it bolting up and the wire harness and ECM working from my 03’.
I have also looked into a complete rebuild going to a 95” or bigger, The Harley long block exchange program, after market engines and also considered just getting another used 88.
What are your thoughts/advice/input? If it would work I would like to swap the 96 with the 6 spd. As I can get that at a pretty reasonable price. I don’t have a huge budget. I have about $4,000. But if I could I’d like to do it for less.
Tear it down and see if it's fixable. It could be something simple. It's not like you wouldn't be taking things apart anyway.
Unless you're not doing your own wrenching.
I'd forget that 96 motor. Isnt going to be a easy swap. Your primary wont bolt up to that engine.
I echo ranger, have a reputable mechanic tear down your 88 and see really whats going on. Could be a easy fix, if not then look into your options. Take out 88 inch motors are ALL OVER ebay for great prices.
