I have an 2006 Heritage Softail and am looking for suggestions to modify my saddlebags so that they lock. First of all, are there decent kits out there to make the bags into somewhat harder bags? Also, what sort of lock works well? I like the looks of my bags now, but I really need them to lock, so if is no way to get them to lock well, I guess I will look into replacing the bags. Thanks for any input!
Do bags have straps and buckles? If yes, buy a pair of good, keyed alike padlocks small enought to fit thru strap hole, but too big to go thru buckle. Locks are for honest people and this will help keep them that way, cheap. Its what i used before installing hd lock kit on my iron bags.
Hello FNSBG, I also have the soft saddle bags you speak of. I try hard to carry valuables on my person, warm gear an tools in bags. In case your new to hard/soft bags, they are all easily removed by the experienced thief. If they really like your stuff, the bike may be easier to remove from your possession then the bags. Many posts on saddle bag thefts and ideas to slow common thief down. Hopefully you have secure parking for your ride. Good luck, welcome to Forum!
