So ive had my 2013 heritage softail classic for 2 years now and shes ran great. Til about 2 weeks ago left out for work got about 1/2 block from the house and what sounds like upper front of engine suddenly started making a loud clattering and chirping noise, almost as if someone had dropped a fistfull of change in the front end. The sound is more chirpy at lower rpm and gets louder and more clangy as the throttle is rolled on and sound also remains consistently timed with the increase and decrease of the rpms (i.e. aa the rpm speed up and engine roars louder so does the clatter) ive been told to change oil and plugs and wires as old oil (ive not changed the oil within the last 1500 miles) can cause poor flow to lifters and push rods causing racket that im hearing. Not sure if this is the case. Any ideas on possible issues would be appreciated. I am extremely limited on funds as ive recently been forced to start over from scratch in life lost almost everthing other than bike and a few stitches of clothing.
Easiest and free thing to start with.... drop the pushrod tubes, take out the spark plugs & turn the bike over a few times..... are the pushrods loose? If so you'll need to find out why. Could be a collapsed lifter, could be a cracked or loose rocker arm support plate. If the pushrods are tight it gets more expensive from there

On that one, instead of messing with it, you ought to take it to the dealer and let them diagnos it. You don't want to grenade your motor ($$$$) while trying to figure it out.

True however funds arent within range for that at this moment.
I am using caution and bringing a buddy in that has wrenched on his own for sometime now to assist as ive only done minor bike repairs on older models . efi and ecu systems are a major nightmare if your a greenhorn to working with them from what ive been told. Dont think ill have to go into any part of that but even changing an air filter to forced can require recalibration.
