cruise control on a 2014 Heritage
.
I have finally paid the bike off.
I love it except it doesn't have cruise control. I don't like the styling of the new heritages. Here are my questions:1. Is it really worth it to have cruise control ( I am trying to take a couple of long trips every year)
2. Can it be added to my 2014 Heritage?
Thanks for your comments.
I am surprised it has worked perfectly for 26 years (probably regret that comment).
Being a city rider I seldom use the cruise control
because it does not change rpms as newer throttle by wire controls.
Probably great for long flat riding

In 2003 a friend and I both bought our bikes from the same dealership's sales manager. My friend got a Road King, I got a Heritage. The sales manager was telling my friend about his cruise control...
I asked if I had one. He said they could add it, but the Softails don't come with it. I wasn't sure at the time what/how that was accomplished. Maybe there was an accessory retrofit kit from the MoCo.
FWIW... My friend doesn't ride much these days, but he still has that 2001 Road King, and last time we rode, his cruise control was still working too. The HD units were pretty basic, but they seemed to work well.

On long trips the cruise control is a very good accessory to have. Not mandatory, but really helps.... That is why HD has offered a cruise control on some of the Touring models since 1989ish.
I never had a touring bike until 2012, and by then I think it was standard on some, if not all, touring bikes. I'd hate to take a long trip without it anymore.
Prior to getting that 2012 Bagger, I used to frequently use the "Adjusting Screw", better known as the throttle lock, for a cruise control on the long, quiet roads during a trip.... but that has hazards involved with using it that way, and I probably wouldn't do it today.
As far as adding cruise control to your bike, the early Harley units are obsolete.
There is at least one cruise control unit available for the pre-Canbus, throttle by wire bikes (2007-2011), by McCruise in Austrailia.
I don't know of one for Canbus bikes...
FWIW...
I actually found an old article in "Hot Bikes" magazine where they showed the installation of a Harley #70955-04 Cruise Control kit, they added to a touring bike that was delivered from the factory without cruise control. I had no idea about that kit. I just found the article and found it interesting. It included the cruise control unit, cable, and new switch packs. I believe it was only for '04+ touring models. Looks to be an involved install...

Yes, since the '16-'17 TwinCam models are Throttle-by-wire or Electronic throttle. The ECM's are
different so that the cruise control disengages when any of the handle the clutch/brake switches
or foot-brake switch is pressed.
I'm not saying that you couldn't try to add all of the 2016 parts (ECM, wire harness too), but it
would probably be a better option to just sell the 2014 and get one of the newer 2016+ models.
good luck,
