I must be the only person dissatisfied with the premium oil cooler. Installed it last weekend. Oil temps before, 245, after... 245. It's definitely flowing oil through it too. It gets too hot to touch.
Sounds like you have a problem with it. If you had it installed by a mechanic or dealer I would take it in. Maybe it has a bad thermostat.

This begs another question; how is the oil routed? Where does it go after it leaves the cooler? If it goes from the cooler to the crankcase then to the oil tank you will not see a difference in temp., since the "cooled" oil is flowing to the engine (where it will do the most good).

I also have the POC on my NT~ I am pleased with it.. I haven't seen my temp go above 215 since having it installed~ That's after a full day of riding in this Florida heat, even~The stealership also did mine, but I was not happy with the install, so I remountedit when I got 'er home~ The dealer had done it just like you see in Soft06's pic~ I have the same regulater cover and just didn't like how the cooler basicly sits right on top of it~ So I fabricated some brackets and hung it from the the cross bar like it shows in the ad pic~ Otherwise... if nothing else, it gives me peace of mind~

Actually, I'm starting to think it's an airflow issue. Soft06 with his skinny front tire probably gets plenty of air hitting the cooler. My fatboy, on the other hand, with it's fat front tire doesn't get near as much air on the cooler. I stuck my hand down there while riding and it's getting some air, but not a whole lot.

If that's true, there's an easy way to test it. Get some heavy duty cardboard and duct tape a set of angled wings on each side of the cooler to direct the air into it. You should see a difference fairly quickly if your theroy is true.
As a side note when the factory was trying to develope the radiator for the VRod they ran into the same kind of airflow problem with it. When they had some aerodynamic consultant come in to look into a fix for theproblem. He cut up a FedEx box to do the same thing. It worked, and you can see theresultson the front of every VRod out there.

The usual practice is to connect the cooler into the return line from the scavenge pump. This way, it gets the oil at its hottest and (hopefully) the oil tank stays cool enough to not burn your thigh.

Bluerose,
I have the same '06 deluxe and my husband installed the oil cooler and heat deflectors under my seat, but I still feel the heat, and fairly intense on my upper right thigh. I live in Bakersfield which is just as hot or hotter than SV. I can't say that it hasn't made any difference, but not as much as I hoped.

Bluerose....I installedthePremium Oil Cooler Kit on my Deluxelast week. Easy to install; also change oil at the same time so you have a new oil in the oil cooler.

ORIGINAL: Soft06

The oil cooler that Harley has for you bike comes with a built in thermostat that activates at 185 degrees. Their cooler is made by Jagg.
Premium Oil Cooler Kit

This cooler was designed specifically for Harley-Davidson® to out-perform all other coolers in the industry. This cooler features a unique "Turbulator" system that evenly distributes oil across the cooling chambers. The air fins are designed to efficiently dissipate heat. This popular Touring oil cooler has been re-designed to simplify installation and enhance performance. The larger heat exchanger provides additional cooling efficiency. Kit features an adapter plate with integrated thermostat that allows oil lines to connect to the oil filter bracket. The thermostat activates at 185°F (85°C). Kit comes complete with mounting hardware and precut oil lines. Kit includes Chrome Oil Cooler Cover.

hmmmm...bummer.

My heat is on the left extreme upper thigh. It's definately coming through the seat.

That's strange that you feel the heat on your left thigh, I thought the oil tank was the culprit on mine. If you get the POC, left us know how it works for you.
