If there is a heat issue with the 07 models why isn't HD installing oil coolers straight from the factory. Why do I need to spend more money to fix?
2 reasons:
1. They make more money that way.
2. There are enough diehards who won't buy because they think an oil cooler is ugly that it will affect sales.
Yup...same reason the dealer tried to talk you into an immediate engine upgrade in 06.

Funny, for me I would consider #2a plus, not a negative.

"There is nothing WRONG with the heat of the engine nor fifth gear it is made that way. EPA is to blame for the heat and lean burn!"

After writing to HD corporate theytalked me out of the oil cooler saying it really was not effective again blaming all on the EPA. In discussions with him and solving heat, ping, surge and power problems (ALL heat related) I finally settled on the PCIII and I ordered it!

I found this HD CSR (one of three) to be very straightforward and honest. He said 08's have same tranny and heat probs but touring models added the isolation bushing on rear gear to avoid shock. PCIII is not available for 08's. He says size diff heads may be in future with change in spacing does not think water cooled is that near for all models. Just his opinion no secrets...

Syn oil seems to have cooled my 07 FLSTC but not enough but now you hear the ping.

The heat still alerts your right thigh and calf and a little on the right edge of the seat. Worse when riding 2 up on hot days esp when stopped for traffic. Bike seems to appreciate high rpms anddoes not seem to escalate the heat. Hate fifth gear but can make it disappear with high rpms and using it only at 50+. 4th gear seems strained at 50 but not so when it is cold...seems to have ample power when cold.

Asking HD to solve my problem was not working but this "mechanical" fix works great!

Longer trips in hot days are solved with a seat guard see photos:

But for the cooler days or just around town it is easy to switch back:

Hoping the PCIII will solve most other probs. Bike is GREAT when cold and a little choked...wish I could manually do that.
