Default Oil cooler?

I was ata dealer talking about some probs I have with my bike including the problem of having heat come up through the seat. Initially one of the guys that has a race car suggested carbon fiber under the seat....said its what he used to help in his car.

He also suggested an oil cooler....everyone standing around agreed that would be better then any thing else I can do.

Any comments or info you might have about oil coolers?

A good oil cooler can make a world of difference. There is one slight gotcha though. If you live in an area that has winter and you ride the bike in cool weather, you will need to either get the sort of cooler that has a thermostat or put in a manual bypass valve. I've seen bikes with large oil coolers in winter that took 3 months to warm up properly because they had no thermostat.

The oil cooler that Harley has for you bike comes with a built in thermostat that activates at 185 degrees. Their cooler is made by Jagg.
Premium Oil Cooler Kit

This cooler was designed specifically for Harley-DavidsonŽ to out-perform all other coolers in the industry. This cooler features a unique "Turbulator" system that evenly distributes oil across the cooling chambers. The air fins are designed to efficiently dissipate heat. This popular Touring oil cooler has been re-designed to simplify installation and enhance performance. The larger heat exchanger provides additional cooling efficiency. Kit features an adapter plate with integrated thermostat that allows oil lines to connect to the oil filter bracket. The thermostat activates at 185°F (85°C). Kit comes complete with mounting hardware and precut oil lines. Kit includes Chrome Oil Cooler Cover.

I used to live in SoCal, just over the hill from you, and I've seen it get really cold. Sometimes as low as 55F! But, you never know when you might get a whim to go up to Big Bear or Arrowhead and play in the snow.

Leave it the way it is, that way you'll have that thing warmed up by the time you get home. The OM will be happy.

I too, run the HD Premium Oil Cooler. I've had one on all of my HD's and I think they're great. I've installed them myself, it's a pretty simple procedure.

I must be the only person dissatisfied with the premium oil cooler. Installed it last weekend. Oil temps before, 245, after... 245. It's definitely flowing oil through it too. It gets too hot to touch.
