This was s'posed to be in my other reply, but who knows where it went!
Just to be clear - I ain't knocking your bike. I am more than glad to see someone doing something besides bolting on chrome-***** crap. Much respect to you for your efforts! Not enough of that home-brew stuff going on these days. Can't wait to see the final result - but then there never is a final-final result once you start chopping!
I have a '87 Sloptail FLST. It's been changed a bit. Pretty much stripped down. Replaced the tired engine with a '99 crate, and the transmission with a Baker. Suicide/jockey, electric box from a WW2 Navy plane, plenty of other stuff. Never could decide on the rear fender, though. So far it has had the stock, cut down front fender on backwards, aftermarket hinged, and the current "plastic" fender from some kit I got off eBay. Decided to modify a FatBoy repop front fender, shortened and mounted to swingarm. Seeing your pics has me wondering again, LOL! With a stock height suspension my eyes don't like the distance between the seat and the fender. Lowered suspension might make it look better. Been thinking about strutting this old bike and would lower it as part of the process. Gots to do some cogitating!
Looks nice!...Did you try installing it with the spacers I suggested on your other thread? Curious if it worked out for ya...
Not installed yet. Gonna look for some spacers tomorrow. Spent tonight getting the wheel back on and get the light strip soldered. Hoping all together tomorrow.
Done and everything's installed. Getting an error code for a bad o2 sensor and rear brakes are spongy so won't be riding it for a bit. But just glad it's finally back together!
Na. Mother road customs has a pan they sell for softails to mount the seat. Not technically made for a breakout, but I modified it to work. I'm gonna get a different one that's lower... But this is fine for now.
