Default 07 soft tail heritage

So my brother in law has a 07 soft tail and he's been complaining of it not tracking straight. I watched him ride and he took his hands off the bars and the bike veers left bad then straightens up the will veer left then straightens up. He was going slow so I can only imagine riding faster than 20. He says it only happens when he doesn't keep pressure on the bars. When we had it parked it was significantly heavier on the left side. Nothing in the bags, tried it without the windshield and same result. First I was thinking the wheel wasn't true or bearings might have gone out? But all the Harley's I've ridden (dynas and sportsters) never felt heavier on one side than the other. It was really noticeable. Y'all have any ideas to look at to fix the dipping issue?

In other news just picked up an 08 streetbob for a killer deal! 😀

It sounds like the camber is off. Has the bike been wreaked? If you put the bike on a jack is there a noticeable twist at the yoke.

So you think the neck is twisted? No the bike is in immaculate condition. We had it on the lift and nothing noticeably wrong. Like I said it will beer left then straighten upright and again and do it all over again. You can’t tell it would do that unless you take your hands off the bars while riding

Check rear wheel alignment.

My bike did that and the fix was retorquing everything on the front end. Also ask him if it feels normal in curves and sharp turns. Mine felt a little squirrelly there also..

by retorquing everything on the front end what do you mean? Like fork/triple tree and axle? We checked the rear tire, and tightened the belt cause it was a little out of spec but that didn’t help it. I’m really thinking it’s something in the front end? Thank y’all so far for all the help but still trying to track down the cause.

Yes, exactly. In my case the forks were twisting, causing it to pull, but worse in turns it felt like it wanted to head for the pavement. Kinda gave me the pucker factor.

Thanks Pitbull, we will try that next. Would anyone happen to have the torque specs for the axle and pinch bolts? I can’t convince him to get the service manual but I’m sure this will be the nail in the coffin to get it!

Grab a measuring tape and measure the distance, from top to bottom of your left forks. Then, measure the distance top to bottom of your right forks. If they are off then you need to reset your forks. There are videos on youtube on how to do it. If your front forks measure the same, check your rear wheel alignment. There are videos on youtube on how to check
