Default Removing seat strap

I know it shows in the manual for my 04 heritage that it should just push down and come off but for the life of me I can't get the seat strap to move to get my battery out for the winter. Any help would be apprecitated.

The strap hanger has a 'keyhole' shaped opening on the left side of the strap and a keeper ring behind the bolt head. The small portion of the 'keyhole' locks onto the keeper. The trick is to get the large portion of the 'keyhole' down and over the bolt. I use a screwdriver (CAREFULLY!!!) to pry the strap hanger down and then away from the bolt while pushing down on the hanger. I got a little too aggressive on one occasion and bent the hanger a bit. I straightened it back out but you've got to be careful so as not to scar the chrome. Once you get the thing off you have to manipulate the small end of the seat through the strap. I swing the front of the seat to right of the bike and work the seat down and out of the strap loop. The only bolts to remove are the two on the sides of the seat and the one at the top of the rear fender. It works pretty good for me. Maybe someone else has a better way.....

Good Luck

Hi bassrock...I don't know if I should be doing it this way or not but I just take those two throx bolts out of the strap and take the seat of that way. Not much work and so far so good. Just watch for the washer on the right side falling out...no washer on the left. I'm no wrench but that's how I do it. Did it the manual way and found it harder to mess with the seat that way.

I don't know where the slide off is on the seat strap to get it off but when I took it off I never seen where you could do it. Just took the screws out. Sure don't see how you could get it off anyway else.

Well thats three in a row. I got tired of messing with mine and left it off. Been trying to find a use for it. Now it is just haning there in the garage looking like a weird sex toy of something.
