Default Security system Smart Siren II - ordered wrong kit, still good to go?

It appears that I accidentally ordered part number 68352-06, which is the 2004-later XL 1200 smart siren II kit. My bad, obviously, but I notice that the 2004-later Softails do not require a kit of any kind to install the siren and antenna. Does that mean I have everything I need to do the install? Just want to make sure before I start tearing into the packaging.

If I can go ahead and install the part, is there a resource online with the proper instructions? The unit came with drawings for the Sporty, so I'm not even sure where the siren mounts on my 'Luxe. Any info would be greatly appreciated!

well, i haven't installed one on a Soft tail, but have installed on Sporties, Dyna and an UC. My bet would be that it is different. The Sportie certainly has a unique mounting bracket and wiring cable that is part of the kit. the UC and Dyna were completey different than the Sportie.

I just installed the smart siren II on my 07 fxstc today. you need to remove the rear splash gaurd (2 bolts at the bottom). There is a clip in bracket for the siren to fit, and you need to unplug one of the harnesses and plug it into your siren (im pretty sure that this is where you are going to see the difference, in the plug type, just my guess). You just run the antenna up in front of your rear fender and use the velcro stips to sandwich the antenna between them below your ecm unit. Hope it works for you.

I have installed one on a sporty 2004 and one on a 2002 Fatboy. I did not need any sort of extra kit for installation on either one. All I needed came with the part. I don't have the part #;s or papaerwork here at the moment.

Looks like I'm screwed then. I have no velcro strips, just some zip ties. I had read that the siren just clips in on the Softail, so I thought that I might be able to skate by. The damn thing was on back order for a month...looks like I'll be doing some more waiting.[:@]

Go downtown and buy some velcro, it can't be much more than a dollar.

I have zip ties and know how to use them. The primary question I have is can I hook the siren and route the antenna properly without the official, Softail part number? The H-D website indicates that no kit is required for Softail models, but I am not certainI have everything I need on hand. Contacted the supplying dealer via email, hopefully they can answer for certain. I just didn't want to start tearing open the plastic bags and end up getting stuck with parts that won't fit the Luxe.

I just recently installed siren on my Heritage and my wife's Sportster. While I did not compare the siren units side-by-side, they did look the same, and I suspect the actual siren box is. The Sporty kit just came with some extras (steel bracket and bolts plus extention cables). The install in my Heritage was a simple snap in behind inner fender plastic, no straps or ties required. You may be able to confirm with a dealer if the actual box is the same for both (assuming you can find one that will KNOW, instead of saying, "they are different part numbers, so must be different unit". I like the sirens, always thought it was silly of HD not to include it on the bikes with alarms. Cheap insurance IMO.

I'm tempted to open the damn baggies and get to work, but haven't heard back from the stealer yet. Right now, my money is on being OK with what's on hand, but better safe than sorry...damnit.[8D]

I moved mine from my '03 Low Rider to my '07 Heritage. On the Heritage it installs like Pilgrim says, no bracket required. I just used Velcro and ran the antenna up and across the frame under the seat. I don't know how you are supposed to run the antenna, but my method works fine for me.
