Default Need suggestions.

Was going to ride the bike around my neighborhood, it wouldn't start. It's a 2012 Fat Boy Lo. The security light wasn't blinking, no lights at all. I changed the key fob battery twice, even put a new battery in the bike. I checked the terminals for corrosion. Waited 45 mins each time i unhooked the battery. I did put a battery tender on the new battery and it registered at half way, but still the lights should of came up on the console, but nothing.. I just rode it two weeks ago and last week.. What am i missing here?

You didn't specify whether or not you checked all of the fuses. Did you ?

good luck,

T.

Also, battery tender isn't a charger...even new batteries need to be topped off b/c they sit on shelves.

Check to see if you have voltage at ignition fuse. If not, it could be the maxi fuse or ignition switch.

The 40A fuse was bad, replaced it and there is voltage at the connection point. The other two 15A fuses were good, but no voltage at the connection points in the plug. checked the grounds and got a signal for those. Biggest problem is due to the virus i can't take my bike to a shop. Stumped.

I was reading about a voltage regulator issue on the 2012 . If you go a HD website you can enter your vin # and get recall info . For the time being look at the connections at the Voltage Regulator and make sure they're clean and not corroded , no damaged wiring etc ( trace wiring back to fuse box ) . You had mentioned the 40A fuse was bad , was it blown ? From what I understand the only thing that would blow it would be the voltage regulator or the off/run switch .

No expert here , just doing some research for you , hope this helps .

I just replaced the voltage regulator last year. thought it was the an issue to something else i had going on, so i replaced it.But yes, the fuse was blown. A friend mentioned the on off switch also. he said to cycle it a few times. and another friend said maybe it's the ignition switch. to turn and jiggle a bit. but still nothing.. tomorrow i will open up the on/off switch to see if anything is loose or broken. Thanks for doing your research. I'll keep the post updated till the ideas run out or the bike runs, or the virus stops me from bringing it to my regular shop.

Another thought is to check the wiring at your steering head , I've heard wires can be stretched or broken in that area , could be possible . Having a blown main fuse , tells you that there is a damaged wire somewhere on the bike , something shorted to ground ..

I would still check the area around your regulator and make sure the wires didn't get pinched by the frame or motor mount .

Could very well be in the off/run switch , could try spraying some electrical contact cleaner and working it to see if that helps , wd40 would work too . Taking it apart is definitely the better option . Use a voltmeter to check for voltage there as well .

What's going on with your battery , is it up to full charge ? 12v or better .
