Check enigin light
See if you can read the code to see what the problem was.... it may the first sign of a part failure..
If you go through enough engine cycles (on / warm up / off / cool down / repeat) without throwing a same or new code, the engine light will start functioning as normal, because the historical code will be erased... I forget how many cycles that takes
If it never goes away, you could have an intermittent problem that throws a code for just a short time, then it goes to historical status, and before you do enough engine cycles for it to disappear, it throws another short term code. That would reset the historical code clearing sequence every time it throws a new, short duration code...
I had this problem once on my '03 Heritage... I would see the historical code, erase it with a code reader, then within a day, it would come back... Once, on a night ride, I actually saw the engine light come on while driving, but it was only on for about 30 seconds. That short active code duration, kept resetting the historical code light... I read the code and my problem turned out to be an intermittent spark code, that was fixed by new wires...
Good luck with the fix...
