Decode EVO Engine Number?
Yes, engines can be works of art.....
After putting a crate engine in my '16 bagger, my wife saw my old 103" engine and said, "That's awful pretty... You ought to display it..."
She then went to the store..... and came home to find this in our bedroom...

She laughed, God bless her.......... But I didn't leave it there too long...

Hi Michael,
I had to do some digging for information on my motor, so maybe can help you out a bit.
BKLU030590
BK = FXSTC
L = 1340cc EVO
U = 1996 (I am basing this on my 4th digit being an X for 1999, making W=1998, V=1997, and U=1996)
The last 6 digits "030590" are the sequential serial number.
Hope this helps.

I agree except for the date code "U"......
The date code for 1996 is "T". I was unable for find any code in the decoder that is a "U". I suspect because they don't want mix ups between a "U" and a "V".... ?
I have to wonder if the engine number actually has a "V" instead fo a "U", meaning it is a "1997" model year engine..
I can't find the decoder I used that showed years, but if your decoder shows T=1996 and doesn't have a U, then U is most likely a V as you said. If the numbers are made of the etched dots like mine I could see how a V might look like a U. Sounds like Michael has a 1997.

Guys thanks a lot ! It's help me very much , I was a bit worry my angine a difrent or may not Original. But may you know also what I have to use for number wen I wants to order parts ? Always is asking for angine number but my is difrent and no one know it .
That's a dot matrix "V"..... the "U" has straight sides to one dot above the bottom line, and three dots across the bottom in between those vertical lines. And don't forget, there is no VIN code for any position in the VIN, that uses a "U". Most likely because it is so easy to confuse the those two letters..
If you are looking for engine parts, you need them for a 1997 Harley EVO engine.
Harley rounds out all their engine numbers, so your EVO V-Twin (Evolution V2 engine) is called a 1340cc (actual 1338cc) or an 80" (actual 81.75 cu in). I suspect it has the same primary and 5-speed trans that came with the original bike?
That engine came from the Harley factory installed in a 1997 FXSTC Softail Custom...
