Default Slip On Question

I’m considering Vance and Hines Straight Shots for my 2000 STC. I’ve had the stock slip on mufflers off several times and noticed a small exhaust fitting in each muffler. They are connected to each other by a cross over tube bolted to the frame.
Do the new slip in’s come with those same fittings or are they no longer needed when upgrading.
Anyone not like the V&H Straight Shots????
Thanks

I love mine. They came on the bike. It's a Fat Boy so I won't include a photo.

Staright Shot slip-ons will have the bungs for the crossover. If you go with the full Stariagh Shots system, you lose the crossover. Without the crossover, and running the stock V&H baffles, or none at all, there's a torque dip off the line. I have the full system on Reaper, and with DK Custom Thunder Torque Inserts which pretty much solve that issue.

I have been considering picking up a set of Straight Shots slip-ons, and reusing my stock header pipes, and crossover (which I have kept all these years ) to see what the difference is, if any, from the full system with the TTIs.

You should be very happy with the slip-ons.

Cheers!

Thanks for the info Clammy. I was in touch with the V&H techs today and they acknowledged the Straight Shots for my 2000 have side bung holes for the crossover even though they are not shown on any photographs.
In your opinion, will I be ok with just replacing the stock mufflers with the Shots using the crossover.
My 88 has the big bore installed as well as S&S Stealth air breather.
Thanks for the info

If you're going from stock restrictive mufflers to the free flowing slip-ons, paired with a free flowing air filter setup, you'll need to tune your fuel and ignition setup to meet the needs of the engine. If your bike has a carb, you'll need to rejet it (pretty simple), and you'll need a programmable ignition module (I can happily recommend the Daytona TwinTec TC88. I have a TC88A - the version fro 2003 - 2006 - in Reaper, with a custom tuned ignition map). If you have Fuel Injection, you'll need some sort of tuner for the fuel and igniton. I have never worked with FI, so I can't recommend any in particular. There are lost of people around here with them, so you shouldn't have any trouble getting recommendations.

Of course, if your 95ci build included an FI tuner, or programmable ignition module and carb rejet, you'll just have to adjust them to the new needs of the engine.

Cheers!

wow your telling me about stuff I didn’t know I have. As far as I know I have pilot and main jets and an air fuel mix screw......I call her my expensive lawn mower. I know there’s a bunch of electronic stuff on the early EFI’s but thought the 40mm CV were all
mechanical.

Kewl, you have the CV40. Reaper does as well. For her engine build, the jetting needed to be change to 48 slow/195 main, and it has a needle that was specifically designed for open air filters, and more or less straight pipes on a higher compression engine. Check under your seat, and see what you have for an ignition module. If it's the stock HD one, you'd benefit greatly from a DTT TC88 (or something similarly programmable), and dyno tune to get the optimal ignition map on it.

Cheers!
