The only time I notice the heat is when I am sitting at an intersection. Through learned experience, I have developed a great respect for the open primary and keep my leg out a little further than most.
Sorry to hijack the thread. Whats the width of your belt? Looks like 3" which I thought would be too wide for the floorboards. What brand are you running and how do you like it? I have a 1996 heritage that is converted to a springer and really interest in converting.

It;s a 3" BDL. I was concerned when I started to build this project that the boards would not work with the open primary but no problem at all. I like everything about it, the looks the sound and not millions of other softails have one. The only thing with an open belt primary and final drive chain is that you have to learn clutch control all over again. There is no forgiveness or spring effect once you give it gas and let out the clutch the bike is leaving the immediate area with you or without you. I now understand why drag bikes use this setup.
