Ed, The 96" already has the stroker crank. it saves you approximately $1200.00 according to my source when you go to build a 103". To make a 96" a 103", you'll need to a larger bore piston.
That's correct a 95" is a big bore kit in an 88",to make an 88" a 103" you need a big bore kit and a stroker crank.
The 96" motor is the same bore as the 88" but now has the same crank as the 103" so all it needs is the big bore kit to be a 103".

There is no need to bore the cases if you want 98 inches from your 88incher.If you have a 96incher you can go out to 107 inches without case boring as well.Go to www.gmrperformance and look at the dyno sheets for these builds. They make more power than the harley parts and are cheaper too. These options build lot's of torque down low in the rpm range(exactly what you need).

Am I missing something, the price of the 98" GMR parts is over $2K, and the 95" Stage II Kit from HD is like $1200.00 (closer to $800 if you order from Zanottis). Not commenting on the performance comparison, just making an observation on price. The GMR seems to be the way to go as far as performance, but it is quite a bit more $$$, about 40-45% more.

I've pretty much decided that I don't want a stroker motor if I can get what I need with just boring and a cam. I'm not into hotrodding, just more low end grunt.

Probably the approach I will take as well, big bore kit and an upgraded cam, may switch to a D&D Fat Cat exhaust at the same time. I wouldlike to get HP in the mid to high 80s and TQ in the low 90s. Don't care about going fast, just getting to 70mph quicker.

What you are missing is the HD SE "build" has staggeringly anemic results... Pete913 above said his SE95 build was only making 84HP/90TQ... a full 30% less than my 95 which I consider a VERY conservative build.... Hell, I'm only running the S&S 510 gear drives in it! With a change to the 540's and a good 2 into1, I probably am leaving another 15-20 #TQ on the table. SE95 = NO bang for the buck..... IMHO

Hey Marsh, i amassuming you put the old baffles you liked back in? Anyway, i have built both. In my opinion if you are wanting not insane but powerful and still reliable. You can't go wrong with the 95. The last95 i built was withthe s.e. 251 cams, stock heads worked or use the s.e. performance heads, 42 Mikuni carb, or race tuner if fuel injected. I always use the D@D Fatcat 2 into 1 pipe. They have consistently produce in the neighborhood of 100 to 103hp and 105 to 110tq. Also you want it to be at least 10.5:1 compression. Good luck with it.

Speaking of price, with yours being fuel-injected at the shop i work at for all parts labor everything which would include head work, race tuner, pistons, boring cylinders, cams, gaskets, and labor runs around $2700.00. Big Daddy Choppers, Rockmart, Ga. 770-684-8902.

Exactly! If you don't want to spend much money you could change your cams and have your heads cleaned up andmilledby big boys porting . You could do that for around a grand and make as much horsepower as these stage II harley kits without even changing the barrels and going to 95inches.
