so the pic attached shows the screw that won't tighten down. Got the bike back from Harley last week and the bars move back and forth. I tightened them down several times. Fixes it for a short while. The damn things get loose again. So i tightened again today and felt like something broke inside the screw hole. And now it won't tighten at all.
So Two things before i take it back.
Why do the things work themselves loose?
Is there anything in particular i should ask they are doing when putting those screws in there? Or even around the bars where it clamps??
Can't see thepicture. Sounds to me like either the screw or the hole is stripped. I assume you're talking about the handle bar clamp?? If so, the risers may need to be replaced.
The last three threadson the bolt seem to look diffirent. Like theywere possibly the only ones grabbing and maybe they finally gave when you tightened it down. Before you buy a new set of risers I would try a longer bolt. Maybe it will work maybe not but it'll cost ya less than a buck to try. If the dealer worked on the bars have them fix it.
You can see what threads are going in.If the first 3 theads are a little stripped that will cause a problem.Go to a hardware store and get some chrome ones a little longer and use a little loctite, yellow or blue but NOT red. Also try to tap it.I think it's 1/4x20 on those bolts.Get a tap, tap all of them. When things get chromed sometimes they will need tapped for bolts to start right.A tap is pretty cheap and good to have.If you add other chrome peices or powdercaoted/painted peicesalways tap the threads first.Ace Hardware usually has a selection of chrome bolts, if you have Ace there.
bring it back to the steeler and demand them to fix it now, a few weeks, thats bull, tell them that the bars slipped during a hard stop and almost killed you. If they say they need to order the parts tell them to take them off a new bike. They probably had some schmuck setup your bike like they did mine, things that didnt line up, stripped exhaust bolt, which had a huge leak,.....steelers suck...[:@]. When I told them about the stripped bolt and the exhaust leak they told me to drop it off and they would "try" to get it done the next day. F-them
I changed the bar clamp on my bike and have never had the bolts come loose. I think if it were me, I would take off the entire clamp and check the threads but also make sure the bolts aren't bottoming out.
Try loosening the other three bolts, then tightening them all down a little at a time (as opposed to tightening one all the way, them moving to the next and so on). Maybe that last bolt just wasn't lined up and was never actually screwed in?
