Default Aftermarket Petcock and fuel line diameter

Hi guys,
I just purchased an aftermarket Petcock for my 04 FXSTS. It’s a bikers choice model. Upon receipt I noticed the fuel outlet appears to be a lot larger than my standard 1/4” ID fuel line.

alrhough it states it’s made for 1/4” hose I doubt it.

Can I manage to insert my 1/4” fuel hose onto what appears to be a 5/16” outlet or should I just look for another oem Petcock?

thanks for the advice

Measure the hole, if it’s 1/4” shove it on. Use a little grease. If it’s really 5/16, you will have to find some rather soft 1/4” fuel line. The last I purchased was made for fuel injection and was very stiff.

I’m told that many aftermarket petcocks are fitted with an fuel outlet for a 5/16” fuel line. I’m just wondering if anyone ever fitted it with a 1/4” fuel line and if it’s a recipe for disaster.
the fuel line hose soft enough to force in with grease or heat but wondering if there is a problem I am chasing somewhere down the line.

Depends on the quality of the hose you are using..... If it goes on without tearing or otherwise damaging the hose, I would probably work fine.... I'm sure it's done all the time...

I would use hot water to soften up the end of the hose, or a heat gun (hair dryer) on low...

I prefer to have things match up... I would use the proper size hose for the proper size fitting...

I've used two different Pingle fuel petcocks on two different carbed bikes.... I don't ever recall having an issue with the fuel hose going on or off...

Being your fuel line is 18 years old you should replace it anyway.
They rot on the inside from the ethanol.

what is was trying to avoid is changing out the fuel inlet at the carb. But I think this might be the safer choice.

i did manage to fit in the 1/4” fuel line on the 5/16” Petcock but it looks awfully tight and I’m scared with time it will tear.

thanks all for your feedback!

Go 5/16ths hose, it'll clamp down on the carb side no problem.

I just did a similar thing with a car. Edelbrock carbs are 3/8 Inl
The car is 5/16. I have an in line fltr. I had to run the 5/16 hose
on that 3/8 in & out fltr (Get the butter). It seems ok, but something to keep
an eye on. Tight fit.

I remember Pingle petcocks for the earlier Harley's were larger
than the stock carb. Same issue.
Had a Mikuni 40 on a 1200 Sportster. Wound up using the Pingle
because it was the same size.
