Default Couple questions-2010 Softail Deluxe

I’m looking at a 2010 Softail Deluxe at an estate auction. Went to see it yesterday and it is a beautiful machine with about 12k miles on it. The only issue I could find was the front brake lever doesn’t move. Rock solid. Bike rolls, auction company somehow claims brakes work but front brake lever has an issue.

From other threads I found, ABS could be an issue, but from my pics of it, it appears not to have ABS.

Any ideas, and cost to fix? Has anyone seen this before? Thanks in advance.

My understanding is that Harley first offered ABS as an option on touring bikes in 2008.... It didn't offer ABS as an option on the softails until 2011....

So that would suggest that bike has a problem with the lever, master cylinder, and/or caliper....

The entire new 2010 Heritage master cylinder with front lever #45019-08C can be bought for around $200.. and the entire front brake caliper assembly #44046-08 can be bought for about another $200.

If it had ABS, the 2011 Softail Heritage ABS HCU module #48349-11A is around $400 by itself.. so be glad it doesn't have ABS...

However, I wouldn't trust the auction company for a proper diagnosis....

I agree, just listing what they said for info.

Good info to have going in to bid. Thank you.

Ask where the footboards are at.

It has forward pegs, is it supposed to have boards?

Per the online parts finder, it came OEM with footboards... the fancy ones...

This is for a 2012 FLSTN Softail Deluxe (JD)... I highlighted the parts it says your bike came OEM with... the numbers are listed below..

Very interesting, thank you!

With the owner having passed on, and the estate company knowing little about bikes, I don’t expect to find out where they are. 80+ year-old buying bikes, and his daughter didn’t approve.

I was looking at bidding on this exact bike....not far from me. Will be interesting to see what it finally goes for. Looks super clean, but clearly will need cash put in right out of the gate and there is a 15% buyer Premium so that puts at least $1,000 more on the price to take it home.

FWIW.....

Black Book Powersports value:

Year: 2010
Make: Harley-Davidson
Model: FLSTN Softail Deluxe
Model Type: Cruiser
Displacement: 1584
Cylinders: 2
VIN: 1HD1JD51A
Finance Advance: $8,935
MSRP: $16,799
Avg Retail: $10,145
Auction Wholesale $8,545
Clean Trade: $8,135
Fair Trade: $7,265

It's a great year/model bike, but this bike has unknown history, unknown maintenance, and unknown mods.... I wouldn't pay more than $8000 out the door, maybe $9000 if it passed my vigorous inspection.....

I'm picky on used bikes.... There are too many Harley owners who are not knowledgeable about these bikes. IMHO, they make bad repair, modification, and maintenance decisions.... Read any Harley forum for awhile and you'd understand what I mean...

If either of you manage to buy it, report back with some pics w/ your new bike...

Thanks for the info. Current bid is $6700 so tack 15% on and I’d be at $7700 already. Anytime I’ve risen this model it just simply fits me and is comfortable. That said this would be my first purchase. I’ve rented in the past. I could end up being in this bike for $9k or so with repair on the brake, tax/tag. Plus I wonder how long the tires have been on it and when the last service was. No docs on it according to the auction guy I connected with.

Any advice or guidance you can offer me on I should look for in my first bike, I’d be grateful.
